Rising actress Charlotte Kavanagh chatted about being a part of the new series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” on Paramount+.

‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’

“It really is a dream come true,” she said about this series. “This show is brilliant and I am so lucky to have been cast. I get to work with and learn from absolute legends (Annabel Oakes, Alethea Jones, Jamal Sims and Justin Tranter).”

“On top of that, the cast have become my closest friends and this is a moment in my life I will never forget. ‘Grease’ is a legendary musical, it is a gift to add to the story by rewinding four years into the past,” she added.

Playing Rosemary in the series

On her character, she shared, “What I love about playing Rosemary is although she is a popular mean girl, she is also just another kid trying to survive Rydell High. She got good at it but her strategy comes from instilling fear in others, probably because she is fearful of people like herself.”

“It really helped me to have those thoughts in mind rather than just playing her as a one-note mean girl for no reason. I also got really good at my evil stare,” she said.

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, she said, “Hopefully a Season 2 of ‘Grease.’ Keep working on my craft, dive into roles that challenge and excite me. I’ve also been wanting to explore the world of writing, and might have a few stories up my sleeve.”

The digital age

She opened up about being an actress in the digital age, especially at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent. “It’s really wonderful, the opportunities are endless and although it’s still a competitive industry, there are way more roles up for grabs,” she said.

“On top of that, the number of stories being told is growing day by day at a much quicker pace, so I feel like Hollywood is gaining speed on reaching inclusivity so everyone can watch something they relate to,” she added.

Dream acting partners

When asked about her dream acting partners, Kavanagh shared, “Pedro Pascal, he is really giving chameleon energy and seems so lovely to work with. ‘The Last Of Us’ Season 2 is filming in Vancouver so maybe I’ll get a chance.”

“Also, Charlize Theron, what a weapon of an actor, I would learn so much from her. Her range from action to drama and comedy is what I hope for in my career,” she added.

Success

On her definition of success, Kavanagh said, “Success means being happy with the life you achieved. Every move you make, the opportunities you select, to reach a point where you can be proud and feel gratitude for yourself and those who helped you get there.”

“Success is not just getting the job, it’s how you live every day. I’m successful in never giving up,” she added.

Final thoughts about ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’

Kavanagh remarked about this new series, “Grease is telling real stories and issues that took place in the 1950s, you can’t say people of color didn’t exist or butch lesbians didn’t either, they did, they just were never given the chance to have their stories be told in a fun musical lens.”

“What’s so wonderful about the show is that you can tell these stories while also having a fabulous time, bop to good music, dance along to killer choreography and fall in love with these characters. There is so much to take away from this show, so don’t miss out,” she added.
