On performing at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall, Sista Soul said, “Oh my gosh. Mulcahy’s is our favorite place to play. The energy at Mulcahy’s is unbelievable. The best on Long Island by far. You can expect to boogie until the wind goes away, and it stops raining. We are going to go back in time to Studio 54 tonight, with the real deep cuts, and of course, we always do the disco classics.”
Recently, they performed at Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens. “Resorts World Casino was great. Anytime we have the opportunity to play with artists that we grew up with is unbelievable,” she said. “France Joli and Tavares were incredible!”
Sista Soul praised their disco promoter and exclusive booking agent Michelle Licata of MLicataEntertainment, who is affectionately known as the “Boogie Mama.” “Michelle puts together the most amazing shows. She literally has single-handedly kept disco music alive. It’s unbelievable.”
Digital transformation of disco music
On the impact of technology in the contemporary music scene, Sista Soul said, “I think there are two sides to it. Many artists, who may be unknown, have the opportunity to put out a single song and get a chance to be discovered, and it has been the death of the album, in a way. When I was growing up, I couldn’t wait for the album to come out. I would rush to the record store and bought the album, but that has gone away. Now, to be successful, you need to have a really great single.”
Sista Soul continued, “With technology, there are so many devices where you can convert your vinyl to your computer. I think vinyl has a certain warmth to it that you can’t get anywhere else other than a record. That’s pretty cool.”
When asked what she is most thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday, she said, “All of our amazing fans that come out and support us, everywhere we go, no matter what we do, and no matter the weather. We are just so thankful for all of our fans. We are going to boogie tonight.”
