Reinier Zonneveld, Dutch DJ and record producer, chatted about his new music and being a part of the digital age.

How did “Just Wanna Dance” come about? (Love the track!)

Having known Alok’s, Madgus’ and K1LO’s work for quite some time now, I was pleasantly surprised to see the start of a track landing in my inbox. I immediately loved it but also had some ideas to get it more in the “Filth on Acid” direction.

They sent me the stems and on the way to a big show in Belgium I tweaked the track and made a first collaboration version that instantly blew up the dance floor!

We were onto something. Pretty fast afterwards we made the final version together that we really loved and were confident releasing.

What inspires your music and songwriting?

All the things I do and feel, all the people I meet – everything I experience in life builds up somewhere in my subconscious mind, waiting to be translated into music.

How does it feel to be an electronic artist and record label owner in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent)

A lot of things have changed. My breakthrough as an artist came when social media was just at the beginning and Spotify started to take over, like just a bit over 10 years ago. There’s a good and a bad side to it, like with everything.

On one hand, music consumption changed and music started to adjust to the format of social media (which I don’t like).

On the other hand the chance to get discovered as a small artist for one big track might be bigger than ever.

What do your plans for the future include?

We’re close to releasing the line-up for the second edition of my R2 festival in Amsterdam, which takes place on 16 August. It will be even better than last year and I can’t wait to share it all with you!

Next to that, I’m working on a new studio album, which takes a whole new direction. For now I will be off to a busy North and South America tour in March and dive into Europe after that in April!

Where do you see electronic music in the next five years?

I hope the trend of more diverse music keeps on continuing and we’ll hear some never before heard sounds due to AI (being used in a creative way – for sound design).

What is your advice for young and emerging artists?

Keep at it, stay true to yourself and take in all advice you can get – but always try to assign a level of relevance to each critique you get.

What would you like to tell our readers about “Just Wanna Dance” and your new music? (What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it)

Can’t wait to show you my new album!

What does success mean to you? (My favorite question)

Being happy!
