Australian country star Morgan Evans chatted about his new music, which includes his new EP “Life Upside Down,” which will be released on April 21.

Song selection approach for the EP

On the song selection process for his “Life Upside Down” EP, Evans said, “Honestly, at this point, the songs chose themselves. I started working with ‘Hey Little Mama’ and ‘All Right Here’ in May of last year.”

“Then, obviously, life took its turns and I wrote ‘Over For You’ and I put it out almost immediately, and similarly, that happened with ‘On My Own Again’. I wrote it and put it out in the moment,” he added.

New radio single

Evans listed his latest single “On My Own Again” as his favorite tune on the EP.

Speaking of “On My Own Again,” he remarked, “I wrote the chorus in November of last year over a cup of coffee one morning,” he said. “It feels like just that point where you stop looking at the past, and you start looking forward. It is heavy but also hopeful to me. I also hope that people watch the music video for this song.

“More than any other video I’ve made, it captures the feeling of what I wanted that song to feel like. I am super proud of that one,” he added.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Evans said, “I love streaming platforms, that’s how I consume so much music and discover so much music. The social media aspect of things has its positives and negatives, for sure.”

“At this point, it is not really a choice. It’s the world now, and that’s how we do things. I am thankful to be able to reach more people now than ever before, so I will take that as a win,” he added.

Dream duet choices in music

He listed Jack Johnson and Patty Griffin as his dream duet choices in music. He dubbed Patty Griffin as one his favorite female singer-songwriters of all time.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Evans responded with the title of his EP, “Life Upside Down.”

If he were to have any superpower, he revealed that it would be “to fly.” “I would be wherever I would want to be, and that would be fun,” he admitted.

Regarding his favorite motto to live by, he shared, “Just Be.” “Don’t try to be, don’t try to do, just be it,” he said.

Evans noted that he enjoys watching Formula One at the moment, and his favorite sports to play are tennis and pickleball. “I’m playing in a tournament in a few weeks so I need to get back into it,” he said.

His favorite cheat meal is “pizza.”

On his definition of the word success, Evans said, “Success is enjoying the moment that you are in.”

“It is definitely a journey. The songs that are already out are the heaviest music I’ve ever put out, and two of the others (‘Hey Little Mama’ and ‘All Right Here’) that are coming out tonight are two of the most joyful and fun tracks. Hopefully, the fans can find whatever they need to find,” he concluded about the EP.
