Matt Thomas, the lead singer of the country group Parmalee, chatted about their new single “Girl In Mine.”
This catchy country tune has struck a chord with fans that find its simplicity and message incredibly relatable, the magic of finding “the one.” “This song is great,” he admitted. “The feeling of having a song like that is awesome, we knew when wrote it that it had to be the next single.”
“The video for the song was cool. They did the drone stuff,” he said. “This is the first time that we ever dropped both the song and the video at the same time, so it was great to finally do that correctly.”
Parmalee is a multi-platinum-selling band that has been able to stand the test of time through their sheer determination and moving music. Part of their appeal is the way they hone their lyrics and music for the everyday person and building that direct connection with their fanbase through personal storytelling.
The smash hit single “Take My Name” became popular on TikTok and shortly thereafter became one of the most-played songs at weddings and garnered the group over 135 million global on-demand streams. The song marked the group’s third No. 1 single following their hits “Carolina” and “Just the Way” with Blanco Brown.
Presently, the band is touring with Walker Hayes on his “Glad You’re Here” Tour as well as their own headlining shows around the country. “The Walker Hayes tour has been great. It has been way more than we have ever expected. It’s just us and him on this tour, which is awesome,” he said.
On his favorite mottos to live by, Thomas said, “For us, perseverance is the key. Also, keep doing what you are doing. Keep on plugging.”
At the 2022 American Music Awards, Parmalee is nominated for “Favorite Country Duo or Group.” “To be in a band as long as we have and to finally get that nomination is a pinch-yourself moment, that’s huge for any band. Scoring this nomination was pretty awesome and epic,” he said.
