Emmy award-winning actor Tyler Christopher (“General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives”) chatted about his latest movies, and shared some of his future plans.
Byron Pulsifer once said: “Imagine, dream, and believe in yourself. With determination and belief, you will be surprised at what you accomplish.” This wise quote applies to Tyler Christopher.
Christopher holds the distinct of being one of three actors to ever win the prestigious Daytime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” for “General Hospital” along with veterans Maurice Benard and Anthony Geary.
“I have been good,” he said about his latest endeavors. “I am hanging out here in San Diego.”
‘Murder, Anyone?’
Christopher plays the role of Richard, which is a colorful part in “Murder, Anyone?”, which was directed by James Cullen Bressack. “I filmed that in one day but it was fun,” he said. “It was interesting, it was satire and not something I am used to but it was fun. The guys were great.”
New Jared Cohn movies
He also stars as Griffin in the new Jared Cohn movies “20.0 Megaquake,” “Super Volcano,” and “Ice Storm.” “That is hard work because they go so fast. It was tough because it was a lot of dialogue in a very short amount of time so I had to turn my brain on,” he said.
Future plans
On his plans for the future, Christopher revealed, “I am still auditioning and I am just hanging out and seeing what happens. My kids are doing good, and they are both into acting in school, which is cool. My daughter just did ‘The Nutcracker’ and I saw her do that. My son did a play too, so they both have the acting bug.”
Unfortunately, during the pandemic, the actor noted that he got COVID twice, so there wasn’t really a silver lining for him.
‘General Hospital’ celebrating 60 years
This April, “General Hospital” will be celebrating its 60th anniversary on the air, and he was a part of that show for one-third of that time. Christopher originated the role of Nikolas Cassadine and played him for 20 years. “Wow, 60 years, I can’t even believe it,” he said.
Christopher described “General Hospital” as a career-defining moment. “Certainly, my first day because ‘General Hospital’ was my first acting job,” he said. “My first day was a little scary because I was new and I didn’t really know what I was doing, and I had a lot of dialogue. In my first day, I thought everyone would judge me and I would get fired but I got through it because I was prepared, and it ended up being great.”
‘MB State of Mind’ podcast on mental health
A noteworthy moment for Christopher involved going on Maurice Benard’s “MB State of Mind” podcast on mental health where they spoke about alcoholism, Christopher’s traumatic brain injury, the brief time when he found himself homeless and how ever since, he has been living every day to the fullest.
“I am very proud of that,” he said. “To be on that show, I had to be raw and vulnerable. Maurice does a really good job with it, and he has been getting some great guests. I am going to do it again. Maurice is going to have me back again,” he foreshadowed.
‘Days of Our Lives’
Aside from his work in “General Hospital,” he also played the role of Stefan DiMera in “Days of Our Lives,” which now streams on Peacock. Christopher also scored an Emmy nod in 2019 for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series” for his portrayal of Stefan.
When asked which daytime character he enjoyed playing more (Nicholas on “General Hospital” or Stefan in “Days of Our Lives), he responded, “I can’t go away from Nicholas, I have to say that. I created that character.”
Greatest lesson in acting
Christopher reflected on the greatest lesson that the acting profession has taught him. “Work hard and say very little,” he said with a sweet laugh.
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “Peace.”
Favorite mottos to live by
On his favorite mottos to live by, Christopher shared, “I live by God, and I keep my faith in that, and it’s strong, and I try to keep it no matter what.”
Success
He defined success as “playing the characters that I love and to keep working.”
For his loyal fans, Christopher expressed his appreciation. “What a journey,” he exclaimed. “What show can say that have been on the air for 60 years… ‘General Hospital’ is the only one. I have met people that have watched it since day one.”
