On performing in Bay Shore at YMCA Boulton Center on Long Island, he said, “I love this gig. This is one of my favorite venues that we look forward to each year. This is one of our Top 5 places to perform in our Top 10 list.”
Regarding his new show Flipping Ships on Animal Planet, he said, “It has taken three years to get off the ground, and now we are on the air. It has definitely been one of those ‘put your nose to the grindstone’ and work as hard as you can, and eventually it will come true.”
McCain just released a new EP, Phoenix, which includes his title track song that he performed on the debut episode of his television show. “I did the full-band version of the album, and then I did the songs acoustic on the show, and I went and recorded one real quick. We also had this other version of ‘I’ll Be’ and I decided to throw that in there as well,” he said.
His updated version of “Hold Out A Hand” benefits the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, which helps children with cancer. “I do a ton of children’s cancer research benefit shows. It is the most under-served segment of cancer research, so Martin approached me to do this, and we re-wrote it for this event, and that song has always been a vehicle for philanthropy,” he said.
McCain had nothing but the kindest remarks for Sara Evans for covering his hit single “I Could Not Ask For More.” “Sara’s voice is always spot-on and she has an incredible pitch. She is super, super nice,” he said.
For McCain, success means “The ability to feel grateful. In my 20s, I was successful, and at 45 now, you start to feel lucky that you have been a part of something. I was at the right place at the right time.”
