Chatting with Doug Gray from Marshall Tucker Band: 45 Years (Includes interview)

They played the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater as part of the 2016 Laid Back Festival, which was headlined by Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band.

“45 years and I’m 68 years old. You put the two together, and it double teams your body, but it makes you feel like you have the best friends in the world,” Gray said, when referring to his 45-year anniversary as a touring act in the music industry.

Regarding their plans for the future, Gray said, “To see you 40 more times in the next 20 years.”

Each day, Gray is motivated simply by “Looking around at people that love me, and the Marshall Tucker Band.”

Most recently, The Marshall Tucker Band has been mentioned in the lyrics of rising country singer Drew Baldridge’s “Burnt Toast” song.

The band members had nothing but kind remarks for Baldridge mentioning their name in his song. Flute and saxophone player Marcus James Henderson noted that he was “digging on his ‘Burnt Toast’,” and vocalist Chris Hicks shared that it “sounded good,” and thanked the country singer for the mention. Doug Gray joked, “I heard your song. Next time you want to use our name, you gotta call me first, buddy.”
