Catching up with country star Jo Dee Messina: Beachbody and ‘Me’ (Includes interview)

On her signing with the agency Buddy Lee Attractions, she said, “I’m really excited. They have been so kind and very attentive. Buddy Lee has been around for a long time, and they have a lot of great folks they work with. I’ve never stopped touring, but I think they will put a new spin on it.”

In the late 90’s, Messina firmly established herself on the country scene with her breakthrough single “Heads Carolina, Tails California” from her self-titled album. She reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country songs charts nine times, and she scored a total of 16 Top 40 hits, which included “Bye, Bye,” “I’m Alright,” “That’s the Way,” her power-ballad “Burn,” “Stand Beside Me,” as well as her Grammy-nominated duet with Tim McGraw, “Bring on the Rain.”

Her last full-length studio album, Me, was crowd-funded by her fans. “It was really great on one hand, but it came at a hard time in my life, when I was spending time with my mother in the hospital. I am looking forward to moving forward. We have so much new material and a new outlook on life,” she said.

Most recently, Messina partnered with Beachbody, where she release the song “Night Crawl” for their Country Heat Workouts. “Well, I became friends with the creator of the 21 day fix, and they started putting this dance cardio workout together, and she called and asked if I could write a song for it, and they had this whole dance after the song,” she said.

On October 15, Messina will be performing at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts on Long Island. “I am really excited. It’s beautiful this time of the year up there,” she said.

Messina listed James Taylor as her dream male duet choice, and shared that she would love to record a Christmas song with him.

Throughout her career in country music, Messina has taken home awards from the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association (CMA); moreover, she was nominated for two Grammy awards. She has sold over five million albums, which include two platinum and three gold-certified albums.
