Their music video for “It Ain’t My Fault” was named “Music Video of the Year” by the Country Music Association (CMA), and Brothers Osborne were also honored as the 2018 “Vocal Duo of the Year,” for the second consecutive year.
Speaking of “It Ain’t My Fault,” it garnered a Grammy nomination for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance.” “That felt good! It’s weird since this is our third year, and I was really surprised that we would get another nomination from the same album Pawn Shop. I was really surprised by this one,” he admitted.
On their future plans, T.J. Osborne said, “We have a single ‘Shoot Me Straight’ from our new record, that is coming out in January. This will be the debut single from the new project. Hopefully, the album will drop in January, and it will be a success. I think the fans will want to listen to it from front to back.”
Brothers Osborne played at The Paramount in Huntington for the second time, but this time as the headliners. “We just played there on September 1, and I love that venue. It went really well, and the venue is really nice. It is great for the fans and the artists. The Paramount treats the artists really well. They do things right,” he said.
Digital transformation of country music
On the impact of technology on the music business, he said, “To me, the smartest thing is to stop fighting the evolution of technology since it is going to evolve regardless. The biggest surprise to me is that the game has been changed, and people have to play that game now. Everybody is starting to play that game and people are starting to see the benefits. The dust is starting to settle.”
T.J. revealed that in his music routine, they are “more traditional” and they are “technologically light” on stage. “I think it’s great that there are a lot of avenues in music these days,” he said. “It used to be getting in your car and driving down to a record shop. I still love record shops, but it’s cool to pop a tune on your phone and to be able to play it.”
The country musician continued, “I love vinyl. I play vinyl all the time. It’s different. You can get the experience of streaming music, but playing a vinyl record is really great. You need a good album to do that. An album that you can play from front to back. Vinyl has a comforting warmth to it. It’s like sitting by a fire.”
Aside from Lee Ann Womack, whom he already sang with, T.J. listed Patty Loveless as his dream female collaboration choice. “I’ve always loved Patty,” he said.
For his fans, he said, “Thank you for believing in us, and for showing up. You’re awesome.”
T.J. Osborne defined the word success as follows: “Success means being able to do what you want and when you want to do it.”
