Regarding his latest funky radio single “Dirty Work,” he said, “I did it with The Monsters and the Strangerz and I recorded it a while ago in Los Angeles. It is a fun song that people can relate to. I think it has a cool vibe.”
The pop star revealed that he enjoyed filming the song’s music video. “We created this office environment, where we get away from the work, and we have a party and have fun. It was a lot of fun filming this video,” he said.
This past December, he released his first book, Just How It Happened: My Official Story, which was a major milestone for the singer. “I wanted to put my story out to people that don’t really know who I am. My fans know pretty much everything about me, but they got to see a little bit more of where I am from. It had cool pictures from my tour,” he said.
In July of 2014, Mahone performed for iHeartRadio Live at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City, which was a remarkable experience. “That was great. I had a lot of fun. I always love going to New York and performing there as well,” he said.
The past three years have been a whirlwind for the pop sensation, but he shared that he has grown as a singer-songwriter. “I have a little bit more confidence and experience now. I have come a long way,” he said.
His songwriting is inspired by “anything he can think of.” “We just pretty much write about anything we can think of. We use our imaginations and try to come up with something cool, and we write from past experiences,” he said.
Mahone’s proudest professional accomplishments include performing for President Barack Obama at the White House, as well as winning his MTV Video Music Award (VMA) for “Artist to Watch,” and subsequently going on his first MTV “Artist to Watch” headlining tour.
A San Antonio, Texas native, Mahone listed songstresses Ariana Grande and Tinashe as his dream female collaboration choices in music.
For aspiring singer-songwriters, he recommended that they keep on honing their craft. “Whatever you are trying to do, keep doing it every single day, even if it takes forever to get somewhere. Just keep working at it, and be consistent, and work on yourself to become better every day,” he said.
“I love my fans. They mean everything to me. I wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for them. I appreciate them and I love them and I hope they go get ‘Dirty Work’ on iTunes,” he said for his fans, which he affectionately dubs as his “Mahomies.”
He defined the word success as “Doing something that you really love and enjoy doing, and being good at it.”
