In a special video message, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi confirmed Capcom has approved the project and the game is currently in the works. He stated in a special message to the fans,“You’ve been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven’t been able to make it happen…until now! We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you’ve been waiting for.”
Unlike Resident Evil HD or the upcoming Resident Evil 0 HD, this is going to be an actual remake built from scratch. It’s unknown if Capcom will keep the original gameplay setup or use the setup that was introduced in Resident Evil 4. Some have also speculated a hybrid that combines the qualities of both gameplay styles.
Given that the project was submitted to Capcom’s leadership last month, it’s unknown when it will be released and for which consoles. However many speculate that it will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Fans have been asking for a remake for several years but recently Capcom asked for their input in on Facebook. Several days after collecting feedback from gamers, Hirabayashi submitted a proposed remake to Capcom’s leadership.
Resident Evil 2 was the second game in the horror series and has been hailed as the best title in the series along with being one of the greatest horror games of all time. The game was first released in 1998 for the PlayStation then ported over to the PC, Nintendo 64, and Sega Dreamcast.
