Canadian Country Music Hall of Famer Michelle Wright chatted about her single “Small Town” and forthcoming album “Milestone.”

The song was released on June 24, 2022, via BFD/Audium Nashville, and Wright co-penned it with songwriters Danielle Boujeaurd and Rick Ferrell; moreover, it was produced by Bob Funk. “It was my first time writing with Danielle and she started asking me questions about my career. It was fun reminiscing and it was suggested that we write my story,” Wright explained.

“It is in fact autobiographical and I didn’t plan on writing that song,” she said. “We ended up writing that song and it ended up being the first single from the new album. That was something that I didn’t expect.”

“As the song started to present itself on the page, it unfolded very organically. ‘Small Town’ says so much about the road I’ve been on in just three minutes. It makes me smile each time that I listen to it,” she elaborated.

It is a track featured on her upcoming studio album, “Milestone,” which will be released on August 26, 2022. “The reason for doing the CD in the first place was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of ‘Take It Like a Man,’ which was the catalyst. That was the song that changed my career, and that was what made ‘Small Town’ so relevant in the long run,” she said.

“I’ve held onto some of the songs for the new album for 20 years, where I waited to record them,” she admitted.

She listed “Heartbreak Song,” which she co-wrote with Adam Wakefield, as her personal favorite tune on the album due to its traditional country vibe to it.

“Small Town” debuted on the official Academy of Country Music’s New Music Friday and Spotify’s New Music Friday Country Playlists, and it was featured on the international syndicate radio show New Country Brew for three weeks.

The official lyric video for “Small Town” may be seen below.

“Small Town” is available on digital service providers by clicking here. “In about three minutes, I really share with the listeners, some of my adventures,” she said. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, dreams do come true. Still, in the end, I am still that small town girl.”

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she revealed, “Hectic.”

If she were to have any superpower, it would be “to make us all love each other.” “Love is the cure for everything, isn’t it,” she said. “Love is the cure for a lot of things, even sickness. That would make us a better world.”

Dream duets

Her dream duet choices in music include Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, and Brett Kissel. “Keith Urban is still at the top of my list, I’m such a fan,” she said.

“I would absolutely also do a duet with Brett Kissel,” she said. “Brett is amazing, I’ve known him for a long time, and not only is he a wonderful talent, but he is also a really wonderful talent. He is very smart and very hardworking.”

Success

On her definition of success, Wright said, “Continuing to make music that keeps your fans interested and brings new fans is very important. Success would be maintaining and perhaps continuing to grow the fan base that I have to continue to do what I do: to make records and to continue to tour. I love it and I want to keep doing it.”

“I would also like to write a No. 1 song for somebody else,” she added. “That would be a great succcess too.”
