Cameron Mathison talks ‘Murder, She Baked’ culinary film (Includes interview)

Regarding his new movie Murder, She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery, he said, “It’s a mystery series of movies based on the books by Joanne Fluke. I play a big city detective that comes to a small Minnesota town to help solve a crime. My character has a bit of an attitude but after dealing with Hannah (Alison Sweeney) he quickly comes down to earth.”

On his inspiration to take on this project, he said, “I thought it was a great script, I love working with Hallmark, and I am a big Alison Sweeney fan. I was also thrilled to hear later that the very talented Barbara Niven was in it too.”

He praised his co-star, Sweeney, as one of the hardest-working people in the business. “She is a talented actress, director and now producer. It was so fun to work with her. There were lots of laughs. I knew from the first scene we did together that she was going to knock this role out of the park,” he said. “I loved working on this project.”

On working with Barbara Nivens, he said, “In the first installment of this movie wheel, I hardly worked with Barbara. Hopefully more in the second movie.”

He is working at Entertainment Tonight as the weekend co-anchor, and weekday correspondent. “I absolutely love it,” he said.

His advice for aspiring actors is to “study.” “Also, create your own projects: online or wherever! Everybody is doing it and it will help understand the business and give you some material to show agents,” he said.

Each day, he is motivated with “the wish to be a benefit to others.” “That’s my main wish. No matter what I’m doing or where I’m doing it, to be kind, respectful and a benefit to those around me,” he said.

For his fans, he concluded, “I would like to say that I am their fan. I mean it. I think it’s time we turned the tables and I got to learn about all of them. Love to get to know them and appreciate what they do, they way they have for me. Does that make sense?”

Fans can tune in on Sunday, May 2 at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. CT on Hallmark’s Movies & Mysteries to catch Murder, She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Cookie Mystery.
