Actor Cam Gigandet (“Twilight”) chatted about his new heist film “Righteous Thieves.”
The movie will be available in select theaters, on digital, and On Demand March 10. It was directed by Anthony Nardolillo, and written by Michael Corcoran.
Aside from Cam Gigandet, “Righteous Thieves” stars Lisa Vidal, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Carlos Miranda, Benjamin Schnau, and Danube Hermosillo.
“Surprisingly, I haven’t shot in Los Angeles for years, and this was the first movie I shot in Los Angeles in a while,” he said. “It was hard to shoot in Los Angeles,” he acknowledged.
Gigandet stars in the leading role of Bruno. “I love that Bruno didn’t give a s**t about anybody or anything, he just cared about himself more than anything in the world, and that is always fun to play,” he said.
“Bruno is a fascinating characters so it’s always fun to play those,” he added.
The synopsis is: In this ultimate heist thrill-ride, Annabel (Lisa Vidal), a leader of a secret organization engaged in the recovery of priceless artwork, assembles a ragtag crew of art thieves to recover a Monet, Picasso, Degas, and Van Gogh stolen by Nazis during WWII and now in the possession of neo-Nazi billionaire oligarch Otto Huizen (Brian Cousins).
As the planned heist approaches, loyalties are tested when the crew learns the real reason behind Annabel’s search for the long-lost paintings.
Gigandet had great words about working with Lisa Vidal. “Lisa Vidal was great… and she can sing great too. One day, she sang for all of us, and she gave us such a performance, and that loosened up the entire crew and the cast. I was just sitting there watching her in awe wishing I could sing like that,” he said.
“I hope this movie is a new way to understand something that happened in our past and in history that was really messed up, and people see it from a different perspective,” he added.
The digital age
On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “I hate it, it’s tough and it’s weird. I grew up literally in two different generations, and I remember when I was a young actor in LA and we would have six months to shoot something. These days, that does not happen anymore… we don’t have time and we don’t have money for that. It’s a different world and it’s hard to get used to it.”
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Gigandet responded, “I’m here for it, whatever it is.”
Denzel Washington
Gigandet listed Oscar winner Denzel Washington as his dream acting partner in the entertainment business. “I had the good fortune to shoot a scene with him in ‘The Magnificent Seven.’ Ever since that moment, I know that he knows what he is doing, and ever since I was blown away,” he said.
‘Twilight’
He recalled his experience on “Twilight” where he played the villain James opposite Robert Pattinson’s character Edward. ‘I was young and ignorance is bliss at the time,” he said. “I had a blast on ‘Twilight,’ I really did. It created so many avenues and so many openings, which I am really grateful for. To this day, people still want to know about ‘Twilight’. It was an amazing experience. My 13-year-old daughter at school is called ‘the Twilight girl,’ so it’s a part of our lives.”
Success
On his definition of the word success, he said, “If I could live my life with the people I want to live it with, and I can share it with the people I want to share it with, that’s all I really need. Your priorities change when you get older and you stop thinking about yourself.”
