Calvin Simon talks new song, digital transformation of music (Includes interview)

“It feels exciting to be in New York. I haven’t been here since we played at Madison Square Garden 35 years ago,” he said.

His new song “A Soldier’s Story” tackles on the issue of post traumatic stress disorder, and him being a Vietnam War veteran, it is extra significant. “I thought about the soldiers coming back from the Middle East, and I wanted to let them know that I understand what they are going through,” he said.

Simon revealed that his music video for the song “A Soldier’s Story” was completed. “I finished it last Sunday,” he said. “It came from the heart, and I wanted them to relate to the situation. Once upon a time, I was one of those soldiers.”

In addition, the iconic musician chatted about the digital transformation of the music scene with the help of modern technology. “Technology has affected the music industry tremendously,” he said. “A lot of the music sounds a lot alike, and when I did this CD, I went back to the old school. We had to learn how to build a song with chords from the beginning, middle and an end. Most of the younger kids now don’t quite understand that theory. You build a song on chords to make a meaning. It’s like playing chess. You need to have an opening, you need a middle and an ending, and some people don’t understand it. That’s why I went back to the old school.”

His plans for the future are to continue spreading the word and this message. “I want to take my band out on the road. My band is hot! It’s the kind of band that you love to go on the road with, since everybody is so excited about it,” he said.

Calvin Simon’s new Christian album garnered a favorable review from Digital Journal.
