Country singer-songwriter Caleb Hearn chatted about his new music, which include his new EP and music video for the title track.

New EP

He will be releasing his new EP “1200 sq ft” on Friday, May 12. In this project, Hearn discusses a pivotal part of his childhood, reflecting on the home he grew up in, and the fond memories that were associated with it before his parents divorced. “This EP is very personal to me,” he acknowledged. “There are a lot of songs that are very nostalgic and they can impact people and take them back to their childhood.”

Hearn collaborated with Marc Scibilia (Quinn XCII) as a producer and co-writer on the song and they formed a special bond. This EP showcases his talents as both a singer and songwriter, with each track telling a poignant and personal story.

“I am so pumped for the new music, it is something that we have been working on for a while, and now, he will out just around the corner,” he exclaimed. “I hope people see the vulnerability aspect of it. I hope it makes them feel young again. I love that, and it’s a really cool feeling.”

Song selection process

On the song selection for the new EP, he said, “Honestly, this one was really cool because normally we put a lot of songs together and then we pick a few. I felt this project was cool because it had more of a purpose. I put the songs that fit together, we wrote six or seven songs, and then we picked four of them.”

New music video

Hearn noted that they filmed the upcoming music video for “1200 sq ft” in north of Los Angeles. “We shot that video in the middle of nowhere, but it was really cool,” he admitted. “I am excited for it to come out.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “Honestly, the digital age is both a good and a bad thing. For me, obviously, I am so blessed and so lucky to be in the position that I am in. I think in the ’80s and the ’90s, it was much harder to be discovered and to be heard. I feel that there are so many talented artists that were overlooked during that time.”

“I have an uncle who is incredibly talented and he is older than me, and he grew up in that era. For him, it’s impossible to be seen. I just jumped on social media and somebody heard me, and it became a thing. The discovery process is much easier now but on the flip side of that, it is oversaturated now and it’s harder to progress,” he elaborated.

“Now, you can be discovered but it’s very hard to keep moving forward because there is so much more competition,” he added.

Dream duet choices in music

Hearn listed rapper NF, Ed Sheeran, and John Mayer, as his dream duet choices in music. “I love NF’s lyricism and everything he is doing,” he said. “John Mayer and Ed Sheeran are both incredible songwriters and musicians. All three of them are huge inspirations to me.”

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Hearn revealed, “New Beginnings.”

Advice for young and aspiring musicians

He encouraged young and aspiring singer-songwriters to be “authentic” and to “stay true to themselves.” “That is something that might sound cliché but it’s really important,” he said.

If Hearn were to have any superpower, it would be “teleportation.” “I would love to teleport everywhere because I am very impatient especially when it comes to traffic,” he said.
