Josh Todd, the frontman of the rock group Buckcherry, chatted about their latest studio album “Vol. 10″ and touring.

“Vol. 10” marks their tenth studio album, which will be released on June 2, 2023. “We are really excited about this record,” he exclaimed.

Song selection approach for ‘Vol. 10’

Regarding the song selection for the new album, he said, “It was not easy. You write a bunch of songs, and the cream rises to the top, the good ones always stick out. You have a template of what you want the record to be as far as the level of quality of songs. You keep writing until you feel like you have 10 songs that are undeniable.”

The album was produced by Marti Frederiksen (who has worked with Aerosmith, Gavin Rossdale, Daughtry, and Ozzy Osbourne) and it was recorded at Sienna Studios in Nashville. “Marti, Stevie and I wrote the majority of the record,” he said.

Favorite songs on the album

Todd noted that he loves all of the 10 songs on this album. “’Vol. 10′ and ‘Hellbound’ are the two best Buckcherry albums that we’ve written thus far,” he said. “It has such a great flow. ‘One and Only’ is one of my favorite rockers, and ‘Pain’ is a very special song, I love that tune.”

‘Summer of 69’ cover

The album also includes a cover of Bryan Adams’ “Summer of 69.” “That was a lot of fun,” Todd admitted. “We wanted to throw that as a bonus track, but these days, there are no bonus tracks anymore. We just put it on at the end and we think people will like it.”

“Over the years, we would do it at our live shows, and our manager saw it one night and encouraged us to record it. I’m glad he did, we speed up that song a little bit, and we give it our own twist, it sounds like a Buckcherry song,” he said.

2023 Tour

The band Buckcherry is out on the road touring bringing their music to the fans. “We just did a month with Skid Row, and that was really great with a lot of sold-out shows,” he said. “We just did three weeks of Buckcherry shows, and now, on May 26, we will be going back out with Skid Row again. We will be playing The Jefferson in Jeffersonville, Indiana, that night.”

The Paramount in Huntington

On September 9, 2023, Todd shared that he is looking forward to performing at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island with Skid Row as part of “The Gang’s All Here Tour.”

“We always have good shows there, it’s a really great venue, and we always look forward to that,” he said about The Paramount. “This will probably be our seventh or eighth show there. We like it as musicians because it’s a cool village where you can walk around in the day, it’s cool there.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Todd said, “It’s an adjustment just like anything. You need to roll with the times, for sure. There are pros and cons of everything, we are just moving through it, and we are working on how we get to new fans every day, and we are just trying to keep up with it.”

Advice for hopefuls in music

For young and aspiring artists, he encouraged them to “be passionate.” “Definitely be passionate first, work very hard on your craft, and write great songs. Everything else will fall into place,” he said.

Stage of his life

Regarding the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “Volume 10,” which ironically enough coincides with the new album title.

“I am in a good place mentally and physically,” he said. “I am very proud of the roads we’ve covered 24 years in the game. Having this record out will be so good. The band has a solid lineup, and we get along really well. Everything is going good, I am just going to take it one day at a time.”

Success

On his definition of success, he said, “Being happy about what you do for a living, and being successful to me means being able to live my dreams, and that’s what I’ve been doing for 24 years.”
