Multi-platinum country artist Billy Currington chatted about his latest studio offering “King of the World,” which was released on Friday, October 24th via MCA.
This 10-track project marks his seventh career studio album, and it was produced by Carson Chamberlain; moreover, it has Currington returning to his distinct, original sound.
Currington co-penned many songs on the record alongside such iconic songwriters as Scotty Emerick and Dean Dillon.
Other contributors include Paul Overstreet, Ben Hayslip, and Troy Jones, who previously worked with Currington on his chart-topping singles “People Are Crazy” and “Pretty Good at Drinking Beer.”

He has secured 12 No. 1 singles, which include the quadruple-platinum hit “People Are Crazy,” the quadruple-platinum “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right,” the double-platinum “Do I Make You Wanna,” and the platinum-selling “We Are Tonight,” among others.

Regarding his new collection, Currington shared, “This album is about getting back to my country roots.”
“It all started when I went to lunch with my buddy Carson Chamberlain – we worked on the first five albums together. We were just talking about life and catching up since I had not seen him in about 10 years,” he elaborated.
“The conversation led us to want to make an album together again, and from there it was pure excitement,” Currington added.
Currington on whether or not he was going for a certain theme
When asked by this journalist if he was going for a certain theme, Currington responded, “I guess in a way I was going for a certain theme. I was aiming for a more traditional side of music at this moment because I had so many songs stacked up that would only be able to work with caution.”
“So yeah, I was leaning to a more traditional theme,” he acknowledged.
Currington on the lessons learned from making this album
On the lessons learned from making this new album, Currington reflected, “It taught me that you can go back, and while you might not be able to start over, you can kind of pick up where you might have left off on something that was so good for you in life, and that worked really well.”
“Also, it taught me that you can try again and it will work again,” the country crooner added.
