James Maslow, Carlos PenaVega, and Logan Henderson of the acclaimed pop group Big Time Rush chatted about their new single “Waves,” and their 2023 “Can’t Get Enough” Tour.
‘Waves’ single
“We have never released a song quite like ‘Waves’ before,” Henderson said about their new single. “It’s fun and we started it because I had a voice note for a melody idea. I took the melody to Kendall [Schmidt] and it had a boy band Y2K feel, and we took it to one of our producers, who really enjoyed it, and it spun from there. All of us liked the song from the beginning.”
“Once we all got in the studio, and perfected the song, it got to be a powerhouse tune, and I like to think that sometimes the smallest ideas make the biggest waves,” he added.
Music video for ‘Waves’
Maslow revealed that the song’s music video for “Waves” is going to be the “coolest” and the “most mature” video that they’ve done. “It’s my favorite music video that we’ve ever done,” Maslow admitted. “We wanted to make something cinematic, very colorful, and something big, and I think we got all of that in the music video.”
‘Can’t Get Enough’ Tour
On their “Can’t Get Enough” Tour, Maslow said, “It’s amazing. The fact that we pulled off last summer, and it was incredible. There were a lot of fans that didn’t get to see our shows last year, and some of the fans truly didn’t even know that we were touring again, and that seems crazy to us because this tour involved our entire lives the last 2.5 years.”
“Now, we are excited to go back out and get everybody to come and see a show of ours,” Maslow added.
“This tour is going to be much bigger than last year,” PenaVega said. “We are still finalizing all of the set details, and thus far, it is awesome. James Maslow may get the lasers that he has always wanted.”
“I’ll do whatever we need to do for the fans to have lasers. This is just as much for them, as it is for us,” Maslow said.
“I think this tour is going to feel so much bigger than our last tour. Visually, this tour will feel a lot more encompassing, as well as bigger and brighter,” Henderson acknowledged.
Upcoming show at Jones Beach
On July 9, Big Time Rush will be bringing their headlining tour to Jones Beach in Wantagh on Long Island, New York. “Jones Beach, to me, is one of the most memorable venues that we’ve ever played,” Maslow said.
“We have so many memories there with our fans in New York, specifically. They have truly been some of the most diehard and supportive fans we’ve ever had,” Maslow added.
Stage of their lives
On the title of the current chapter of their lives, Maslow said on behalf of the band, “Another Life.” “This chapter feels almost like another life because it’s on our terms, and in different stages of our lives, and that’s an extremely exciting thing. I think that makes sense for a lot of us now,” Maslow said.
Dream collaboration choices in music
Regarding their dream collaboration choices in music, the Big Time Rush band members listed such artists as Remi Wolf, Jonas Brothers, and Kehlani. “Remi is so much fun and so unapologetically herself, and she has a cool vibe about her,” Henderson said. “I would love to have Kehlani featured on a Big Time Rush record,” Maslow added.
“In my house, we have been obsessed with the Jonas Brothers’ new song ‘Waffle House.’ My kids wanted to hear it over and over again, so we probably heard it 30 times on loop,” PenaVega said. “I think what the Jonas Brothers are doing is really awesome, and I would love to do something with them. All of their new music has a really cool vibe to it.”
“The Jonas Brothers are the GOATS,” Henderson admitted. “It would be nice to someday play a show with them.”
‘Stars Fell Again’ movie
Maslow opened up about starring in the romantic comedy “Stars Fell Again” opposite Ciara Hanna. “That was great,” Maslow exclaimed. “I’ve known her for so long, so it’s so nice and comfortable to go back to that little franchise again. It was so nice to work with her again, and hopefully, we will get to work together again.”
PenaVega’s children’s book
PenaVega opened up about his latest children’s book “Ocean’s World: An Island Tale of Discovery and Adventure,” which he co-wrote with his wife, Alexa, and it features illustrations by Kiersten Eagan. “I really enjoyed that book, and there is more to come,” he hinted.
Success
On his definition of the word success, Maslow said, “Truly the ability to keep creating art, and the freedom to keep doing this and to keep touring.”
“Also, the ability to communicate and connect with people,” Henderson added.
