Big Time Rush chatted about the deluxe edition of “Another Life,” their upcoming shows, and their new song and music video for “Weekends.”
The pop group is made up of James Maslow, Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, and Carlos PenaVega.
‘Another Life Deluxe’
This deluxe version of “Another Life” will include five previously unreleased tracks, which include an acoustic version of “Weekends.” “We are so excited about this,” PenaVega said.
“We had been considering a lot of those songs for a long time. To finally see these songs out and the fans getting to enjoy them is really exciting,” Maslow added.
“There were so many tracks that we really wanted to include on the album so a deluxe album was always a thought for us, and some of my favorite songs are on the deluxe part of this album. I am happy it’s finally out. We didn’t have to make a choice; now, we can enjoy them all,” Henderson said.
‘Weekends’
On the song “Weekends,” PenaVega said, “This song is awesome. It is acoustic-ish because there is a lot more happening. This summer, we did ukulele at the end of the song, where it was a little broken down, and it was such a cool vibe. I think our producer, Will, just hit it out of the park with this acoustic-ish track.”
“It was so fun and we got to keep the melodies the same,” PenaVega admitted. “That song has always been special to us, so to keep it going and giving it another life on the ‘Another Life’ album was a no-brainer. I loved it.”
Jingle Ball shows
Big Time Rush will perform six shows on iHeartRadio’s upcoming Jingle Ball tour, which will kick off on November 28 at Dickles Arena in Dallas, Texas. “We are looking forward to those Jingle Ball shows,” Maslow said.
On December 8, they will be a part of the Jingle Ball lineup of New York’s Madison Square Garden. “I can’t believe that we are going back,” Schmidt said. “I mean I can believe it but it will be wild to be there again with this year’s Jingle Ball performers.”
“We’ve had some epic times at The Garden,” Henderson admitted. “There are some really great performances we’ve seen there, and the first time we ever played there, we got to meet Lady Gaga backstage. This year’s lineup looks incredible, and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Henderson elaborated.
Hallmark movies
PenaVega opened up about doing Hallmark movies. “The Hallmark movies have been going well. Even though there was a strike, now it is over, and we are on a roll for next year,” PenaVega said, prior to noting that his wife, Alexa, and his three kids are all doing well.
Future plans
Regarding their future plans, Maslow said, “We have a lot. We definitely love touring, so I think that will always be at the core of what Big Time Rush tries to do.”
“Without giving away any secrets, we’ve done two huge U.S. tours back-to-back and a South American tour between that. I think this next year might be some smaller spots but we are excited to explore more territories,” Maslow elaborated.
“Ideally, the boys and I want to take Big Time Rush all over the world. That’s our goal… More music, more touring, going worldwide, and maybe some other surprises along the way,” Maslow added.
Stephen Kramer Glickman
They also had kind words about Stephen Kramer Glickman, who played Gustavo Rocque on the Nickelodeon show “Big Time Rush.” “We give Stephen a hard time and the day that we stop giving him a hard time, then there is something actually wrong,” Maslow said. “We love that man!”
“That means our relationship with him is strong,” Schmidt added.
Motivated by the fans
“One of our biggest motivations are the fans,” Maslow said. “We get to have far more communication with fans than a lot of bands because we play so much, we do meet and greets, and we actually get to talk to hundreds of fans before every show. We take their feedback to heart and let that inspire our new music and a lot of the art that we create for them.”
Stage of their lives
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Maslow said, “Butterfly.” “I am in the metamorphosis phase,” Maslow concurred.
“The title of my chapter is ‘Family’,” Schmidt said. “For me, it’s a period of ‘Personal Growth’,” PenaVega acknowledged.
Success
Big Time Rush collectively defined the word success as “freedom,” and “doing something that you love with the people around you.” “For me, it’s about being able to make a positive difference to change people’s live,” PenaVega said.
“Being able to inspire people and hearing how much our band means to them is a success,” Schmidt added.
Fans
For their fans, Maslow said, “We are going to keep making awesome music for them, and we will keep playing shows as long as they keep showing up.”
