“It is fantastic,” he exclaimed, about the BBMak reunion. “We have always stayed in touch. It was something that we have been mentioning over the last couple of years. It is great that people still want to come and see us. It feels really good, especially since it has been 15 years since we last performed. It is like riding a bike. You never forget how to do it,” he elaborated.
Aside from Christian Burns, BBMak is made up of Mark Barry and Stephen McNally, and they are known for their smash hits “Back Here,” “Still On Your Side,” “Out of My Heart (Into Your Head)” and “The Ghost of You and Me.” They are known for their harmonies, as well as for playing their own musical instruments.
On November 13, BBMak will be performing at Gramercy Theatre in the heart of New York City. “It’s going to be the first out of our three shows. We are ecstatic to do the show since it will have all of our old songs, and we will give a sneak peek to some of the new songs,” he said. “For us, it is about getting back out and reconnecting with everyone and just having some fun out there on stage. We can’t wait to do these songs.”
He revealed that at Gramercy Theatre their set will include “I Can Tell” and “The Ghost of You and Me.” “I ‘can tell’ you for a fact that we will be doing both of those,” he said.
On his plans for the future, Burns said, “We are in rehearsal at the moment. We are working on our new album, which we hope to have out next spring. Also, I am busy finishing up my other album with All Hail The Silence, with my good friend, BT, which will be out early next year as well. I have been in the studio for a few years finishing up new music.”
Burns also praised electronic mega-star Armin van Buuren, where they collaborated together on several tracks. “Touring with Armin van Buuren, and he is such a nice guy as well,” he said.
Being a huge fan of The Beatles, Burns noted that it would be a dream of his to someday collaborate with living legend Paul McCartney. “Paul and The Beatles were my biggest musical heroes,” he admitted. “I would love to work with any of the remaining Beatles.”
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, Burns said, “I have still remained in the music industry since we split up in 2003, and I have seen the whole change. This was even before MySpace and everything. It is very exciting and an amazing time for music. People have more access. At the end of the day, it has changed a lot. You need to change with the times. Social media has changed everything, and the way that we can connect with the BBMak fans.”
Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine as a recording artist, Burns said, “Technology is a really great tool to be used by artists and to get the word around. It is a major move forward I think in the right direction. I use it every single day. I have my studio set up, where I record my vocals and my computer, where we edit our videos, and we post on social media. I also record my ideas on Voice Memos, and then I turn them into full songs. I don’t really know any musician who doesn’t use technology. You need to do that these days.”
Burns defined the word success simply as contentment in life. “If you are happy, then you are successful,” he said. “That is the end goal for everyone: happiness.”
