There was certainly some “Knight Fever” at Buckingham Palace yesterday. Gibb was knighted by Prince Charles for his services to music and charity, as a singer, songwriter and record producer. He was the co-founder and creative leader of Bee Gees. Along with his late brothers, Maurice and Robin Gibb, they are one of the most successful vocal groups in the history of rock and roll. The Bee Gees have sold millions of units to date.
Throughout Gibb’s illustrious career in the music industry, he is the recipient of eight Grammy awards, the Grammy Legend Award, as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received in 2015. In 1997, Gibb was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of the Bee Gees in the “Performers Category.” He has also been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994. In the early 2000’s, the Bee Gees were made Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
As a songwriter, Gibb has secured the most consecutive Billboard No. 1 songs ever with six, and he is the only songwriter to have written or co-written five songs that were simultaneously in the Top 10. Gibb is one of two of the all-time songwriters of chart-topping songs, behind only the songwriting duo of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Speaking of songwriting, the Guinness World Records has ranked him as the second most successful songwriter of all time right behind Paul McCartney.
