Actor Bailey Chase (“Longmire”) chatted about his western film “Far Haven,” which was directed by Gary Wheeler.

The synopsis: In 1887, after serving two years in Yuma Territorial Prison, wrongfully accused Hunter Braddock, a virtuous man with a complex past, moves back to the Arizona town of Far Haven to start over with his two young children.

When his father-in-law is brutally attacked by an unidentified raiding party, Braddock must take on the corrupt forces strangling the town in order to protect what he loves most.

“Far Haven was amazing,” he admitted. “It looks incredible, it turned out really well. I love A Martinez, and Jesse Kove is a sweetheart; Jesse is prolific in keeping me trending. Jesse is so funny, he is such a prankster. It was great to have Martin and Jesse Kove together in this film.”

On playing Hunter in the western, he said, “I love to ride so any excuse to ride horses is a good one for me. I was drawn to playing Hunter because he is the hero, and I hadn’t done that in quite some time.”

“I was playing the villain or the other guy. He is not just the hero; he is a flawed hero and I found that really interesting. I tried to delve into those flaws. By the numbers, it’s an old classic western but there is a lot more going on with ‘Far Haven.’ It was just a special job for me, and it was very rewarding,” he elaborated.

“It’s a story of redemption and it’s about faith and family. The movie deals with standing up to what you believe in, and all things I wish I saw more of in the world today,” he added.

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “It’s different. Many people in our latest movie ‘Far Haven’ have never shot in film before. There has been a lot of change in the industry. I’m more of an old dog trying to learn new tricks. I am enjoying the journey, there have been a lot of ups and downs. At this stage in the career, I am able to appreciate all the good that I have.”

“I am curious to see where it goes,” he admitted. “Obviously, AI is coming up, and who knows where that is going to take us? I am sure it’s going to look very different in 10 to 20 years from now.”

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, he said, “Just to keep doing what I am doing. I produced my first movie a few months ago, and that was very rewarding. I wrote something recently that is in development. I enjoy the creative side of writing and creating. I had a great time producing and I am looking forward to more of that in the future. That has been pretty cool.”

Favorite motto to live by

On his favorite motto to live by, he said, “Just being true to yourself., that’s important to me. To be authentic and to treat people with respect.” “My wife would say that the title of my life’s current chapter is ‘Be Kind.’ I’m working on that one,” he acknowledged. “I am a work in progress.”

Superpower of choice

His superpower of choice would be “to be able to fly.”

Success

“Being happy and being content is what success means to me.” “I’m married and I have kids and I just want to feel content,” he said about his definition of success. “At the end of the day, that makes me happy and that equates success in my mind.”
