They, in essence, could easily claim a few top film awards, from Top Film to Top British Film.
During award season, fighting for headlines is always a sidebar here. For example, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) released a story about how their nominations will be announced.
Then, BAFTA gets in the movie game on the backdrop of Golden Globe Awards prep. So do the Oscar folk. Huh?
What will happen with the Oscar nominations is that all 24 categories will be announced live Jan. 15. The usual way was for the major categories getting the early morning fanfare, and then the rest get the online treatment.
For the Oscar nominations, here is how it will work now. “Each of the three years we’ve produced the show, we have attempted to refresh elements of the process and the telecast,” said Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, in an AMPAS release. “This year, we’re honored to start a new tradition that celebrates the contributions of all the nominees by announcing all 24 categories,” they added.
There, that was easy, but it did make sure Oscar was on our minds as Golden Globes are in focus.
Then, there is BAFTA, from across the pond. They reaped 11 nominations on “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” “Birdman” and “The Theory of Everything” each grabbed 10 nods. “The Imitation Game” hauled in nine nominations.
