Atlantic recording artist JULES IS DEAD chatted about her new single “My Own Hell.”
A 17-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Jules hails from the town of Barrie, Ontario. Jules recently signed through a joint venture partnership between Atlantic Records and TAG Music.
How did “My Own Hell” come about?
“My Own Hell” was written in a session with Kat Leon from Holy Wars and KThrash. I absolutely loved working with them, they’re such sweet people. Going into the session I had a clear idea of what the song was going to be, and I think we executed it beautifully.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
My songs are inspired by whatever I’m dealing with when I write them. Sometimes it’s friendships, mental health challenges, or movies I love.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent)
I initially found it a bit hectic always posting and promoting when all I want to do is connect with my fans and people who share common interests. But social media is how to connect with those people now and then eventually I’ll meet them face to face at my shows.
Which artists would you like to do a dream collaboration with someday?
AFI, Paramore, and My Chemical Romance are my favorite bands of all time so working with them is at the top of all my dream boards.
What do your plans for the future include?
I think the most immediate thing is definitely getting out there playing shows and touring. I love going to concerts so I’m really excited to start playing them.
What does the word success mean to you?
I think success is being able to have people relate to your music. If any of my songs can help people through tough times the same way my favorite bands do, that’s what it’s all about.
What would you like to tell our readers about your new single and your new music?
I want people to know how much power they have even when everything is dark and heavy. As much as we’ve all heard it way too many times, we’re not alone in any of this.
