The streamer Apple TV+ emerged as the big winner at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, which were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The streaming services Netflix and HBO Max also claimed multiple wins while network TV was shut out with the exception for live programming.
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ was able to secure wins thanks to their hit series “Severance” and “The Studio.”
Apple TV+ came out on top with seven major wins, which included four categories for “The Studio,” which won for “Outstanding Comedy Series,” “Outstanding Lead Actor” for Seth Rogen, “Outstanding Directing” (Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg) and “Outstanding Writing.”
In “The Studio,” Seth Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of embattled Continental Studios.
As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films.
With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe.
As someone who eats, sleeps and breathes movies, it’s the job Matt’s been pursuing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.
In his humble acceptance speech, Seth Rogen noted that he has “never won anything” in his life and stated that when he was a kid, he bought “a used bowling trophy.” Now, he doesn’t have to worry about that ever again.
In total, Apple TV+ earned 22 wins at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards (13 for “The Studio,” eight for “Severance” and one for “Slow Horses.”)
“It’s an incredible honor to see this milestone for ‘The Studio’,” Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, said in a press statement. “Tonight’s wins — from Seth and Evan’s sharp comedy to Britt and Tramell’s powerful work on ‘Severance’ — show how great stories connect with audiences everywhere. Huge congratulations to all of tonight’s nominees and winners. Your creativity keeps us inspired.”
HBO Max
HBO Max’s medical drama “The Pitt” won for “Outstanding Drama Series, while also earning Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa acting awards for “Outstanding Lead Actor” and “Outstanding Supporting Actress” respectively.
HBO Max also earned awards for its comedy series “Hacks” with Jean Smart taking the “Outstanding Lead Actress” Emmy Award, while Hannah Einbinder won for “Outstanding Supporting Actress.”
Netflix
Finally, Netflix won for “Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series” with “Adolescence,” with that same show earning Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty Emmys for lead actor and supporting actor and actress, respectively.
At 15 years old, Owen Cooper made history as the youngest-ever male winner of a Primetime Emmy acting award. That show also won Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Directing” and “Outstanding Writing for a limited or anthology series or movie.”
Conclusion
This year’s Emmy Awards once again are a substantial indication of how prestige and money shift from the TV networks to the streaming services.
The sole CBS Emmy win was for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” a show that was cancelled back in August.
