Film and stage actress Anna Manuelli chatted about starring in “SAS Rogue Heroes” and being a part of the digital age.
How was “SAS Rogue Heroes” for you?
It was such an amazing adventure. All the cast and crew were wonderful, we really had a great time. The best thing was the team we created, both on and off screen.
What did you like the most about your character?
Some of the most beautiful things about Alessia for me are her strength and her courage. She exemplifies the hundreds of thousands of people who took part in the resistance against the fascist regime in Italy during World War II.
These people fought and sacrificed everything for justice and for freedom. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to play her.
What’s like working with a cast that includes Jack O’Connell, Sofia Boutella, and Dominic West?
It was inspiring to watch them work and work together; they are incredible actors. The cast was truly outstanding. I was fascinated and entertained by how they were able to amaze you with every take, leaving you with bated breath wondering “What’s going to happen next?” even though I clearly already knew the script by heart…
What did this series teach you about yourself?
It was wonderful to go deep into the stories of these characters and to realise how brave these young men and women were. As for my character, her unrelenting strength and her ability to put everything on the line and fight to pursue what is right, was a great example to learn from.
These people were ready to sacrifice their lives for an idea, for how strongly they believed that change was possible, even in the most difficult and desperate situations. It’s a great example of how hope never fades in human beings, no matter what.
How does it feel to be an actress in the digital age? (now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent)
With streaming platforms more films and series are being produced, so there is more work for actors, at the same time there are so many films and series that it is impossible to be able to keep up and see everything.
As far as social media is concerned certainly today you can reach many more people than before but at the same time you feel the pressure of constantly having to publicize your life, I think the key is to try to find a balance.
What is your advice for young and emerging artists?
Don’t give up, if you feel that this is your path, persevere, be patient, always try to improve and give your best. and be patient.
What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)
I think success in this job for me is watching a film/show I took part in and realising that the joint effort has led to something beautiful, something worthwhile, that will inspire those who will see it. I think that’s what success means for me.
What would you like to tell our readers about “SAS Rogue Heroes”? (What’s the one thing you want them to get out of it)
I think what this series conveys is facing difficulties with determination, even the most difficult situations, not giving up and always keeping hope alive.
