Warhol paintings in warehouse
These paintings and prints — from two collections — have never been exhibited together. Some are from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, others are from the collection of L.A. businessman Ron Rivlin, owner of the Beverly Hills’ Revolver Gallery.
The exhibit, called ‘Warhol – A Different Idea of Love’ will be in a 5,000-sq.-ft. warehouse at 1280 Homer Street in Yaletown and will run Monday to Saturday from March 1 to March 31. It is being presented by Rivlin’s Revolver Gallery and the art consulting firm of MAISON A1.
“To have a portrait painted by Andy Warhol carried incredible prestige and in many circles was considered the ultimate form of social validation,” Christopher Dohm of MAISON A1 said in a press release.
“The subjects of the portraits in Andy’s ‘Socialites’ series, for example, were members of the social elite who wished to be elevated to the status of his other subjects — globally recognized icons, but Warhol did more than just iconify his subjects; he immortalized them.”
Pop artist among most collected
The Vancouver Sun notes that the American pop artist, who died in 1987, at the age of 58, is one of the world’s most collected artists. “Last year,” the Sun’s Kevin Griffin wrote. “Almost 1,300 Warhol works were sold for more than $653 million US at auction.”
Some very renowned pieces will be there. No, not the Campbell’s Soup tins but yes, the silkscreens of both Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
