Multi-platinum pop singer-songwriter Andy Grammer chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about his new single “Damn It Feels Good To Be Me” and “The Art of Joy” Tour.

On his new single “Damn It Feels Good To Be Me,” he said, “That’s a pandemic jam that I wrote for myself. I think a lot of people are struggling with their identity since they couldn’t do what they used to do. When that is taken away, it is nice to get a shot of you. Being you is enough and you don’t need validation from other people and other situations. I am psyched about it since it feels like a party.”

“We just released a video for the song, and it just makes me happy,” he admitted.

Grammer is excited to be going on “The Art of Joy” Tour. On February 11, he will be performing at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. “I am so excited. I have been waiting to get out and play some music. This will probably be my favorite tour of all time. It will be great to play with a full band and to have production. I am so genuinely excited to go out and play,” he said.

“To be playing the Beacon Theatre is a big deal, that’s exciting,” he added.

He had great words about working with electronic superstar Don Diablo on the poignant “Thousand Faces.” “Don and I both connected over that song since he and I both lost a parent,” he said.

Grammer shared that he is looking forward to releasing more new music this year. “The tour dates are announced and it looks like things are going back into a flow of what I love. I am excited about it,” he said.

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said with a sweet laugh, “Be okay with the silence.” “In my personal life, I really had to get comfortable not running,” he said. “So much of my life before was from plane to bus. Getting to stay home has been both sweet and difficult.”

He listed Alessia Cara and H.E.R. as his dream collaboration choices in music. “H.E.R. is amazing, and Alessia’s voice is incredible,” he said.

On being an artist in the digital age, he said, “It’s great and a little overwhelming. Everybody has to develop their own relationship with social media. The creativity and songwriting that happens between people on TikTok is so awesome. Also, the fact that we get to listen to exactly what we want has a lot of positives.”

He revealed that the best advice he was ever given came from his father. “My dad told me on my first day of high school that all of the cool kids will change so be nice to everybody,” he said.

Grammer defined the word success as “making art, music, and songs that I love regardless of whether or not they are successful by anyone else’s standards. If I love it, that’s enough.”

“Damn It Feels Good To Be Me” is available on digital service providers by clicking here. “I hope when the fans listen to it they are reminded that they are unique, and that their unique, crazy selves is what the world wants,” he concludes.
