Actor Andrew Liner chatted about starring as Reid in the new Netflix series “Ransom Canyon,” which premieres on April 17th.

Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” This quote applies to Andrew Liner.

Liner on the new series ‘Ransom Canyon’

“We have ‘Ransom Canyon’ coming out soon, and that is a blessing,” he admitted. “I think a lot of people are looking forward to seeing something new.

“I think ‘Ransom Canyon’ is something that people can latch their teeth into. It is so wild,” he noted.

Playing Reid in ‘Ransom Canyon’

On playing his character Reid Collins, Liner stated, “Reid is really complex. That’s what I like the most about him. He is layered in a bunch of different ways but he is also fighting to be good, and that’s something that a lot of us try to do. We fight to be good.”

Lessons learned from this series

“This show has taught me a lot about myself,” he admitted. “When you read something that someone else wrote, you dive into it, and you try to connect with it in the best way that you can.”

“This series has taught me to bring my authentic self to it,” he underscored. “Overall, I learned a lot doing this show. It is different reading something knowing that you are going to be playing the part.”

Working with Eoin Macken as his on-screen father

Liner had great words about working with Eoin Macken as his on-screen father Davis.

“Eoin is the best,” he exclaimed about his onscreen father. “He is so gracious; he gave me so much advice that I ended up taking with me in my life.”

“Eoin is obviously such a strong actor, but I also learned so much from him as a human being as well. Eoin feels so young too; he has siblings that are my age,” Liner added.

Working with Josh Duhamel — Lead actor and executive producer

“It was fun working with Josh Duhamel,” Liner said. “Josh is such a dude, which I love. I grew up playing sports, I didn’t really grow up in the arts or anything like that, but it’s also nice having someone I can relate to, and Josh is that person.”

“Josh is a family man, and he loves sports. Josh is a dude’s dude. Josh was very gracious with me and I learned a lot from both Josh and Eoin,” he said.

Liner on Jack Schumacher

Liner also complimented his “Ransom Canyon” co-star Jack Schumacher. “Jack Schumacher is great! We are all really close friends. Jack is a super sweet and lovable guy,” he said.

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age, Liner said, “Social media gives you a glimpse into the mystery of the lives of actors, and it takes you behind the scenes, and all those juicy things.”

“I am not in love with the digital age,” he admitted. “I think it’s cool but it also makes things hard  sometimes. A lot of people can watch things digitally, so it makes things more accessible, which is a huge benefit.”

“I feel that sometimes we are out of touch with people,” Liner noted. “Kids, these days, are on their phones instead of talking to people and I miss that.”

Future plans

Regarding his future plans, Liner shared, “I am writing a lot. I want to write, direct, and produce, and do all those things. Being an actor is hard but it also opens you up to a bunch of different experiences as well.”

“Acting allows you to push yourself creatively in a multitude of ways,” he said. “I am a creative that wants to be around other creatives, and I want to create.”

Liner on visiting China

Liner revealed that he is going to China with his friend in a few weeks.

“My friend is playing in professional tennis tournaments there. His coach was unable to go with him, so I will be going with him instead. I used to play college tennis so I am not too shabby… The trip to China is going to be really fun,” he said.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, he revealed, “On to the Next Hussle.”

Superpower of choice

If he were to have any superpower, it would be to have “Batman’s superpowers,” which include being “super-rich” and having “super amounts of brain power.”

“Other than that, I would love to have super strength,” he said.

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Liner said, “Success, to me, means when I know that I gave it my all, and I tried really hard and did everything I could do. I don’t think success is measured by money or by fame.”

“I think it is measured by the people that you love and the people that you care about. I like to measure success by how I feel about something,” he acknowledged.

Closing thoughts on ‘Ransom Canyon’

For fans and viewers, Liner expressed about “Ransom Canyon,” “I hope viewers have a fun time. I think it’s fun with twists and turns, which can go a million different ways.”

“I hope people have a fun time with it, sink their teeth in it, and I hope they enjoy it,” Liner concluded.
