Amalia Yoo chatted about starring in “John Proctor is the Villain” on Broadway, where she plays Raelynn Nix opposite Sadie Sink’s character Shelby Holbrook.

Most recently, Yon won the 2025 Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play” for “John Proctor is the Villain,” where she was tied with Kara Young for “Purpose.”
Working with playwright Kimberly Belflower
On working with playwright Kimberly Belflower, Yoo said, “Kimberly takes teenage girls so seriously, and has written such amazing and difficult yet lovable at some points characters that are multifaceted, and taken so seriously.”
“I just love the way Kimberly has given a voice to all these young girls,” Yoo added.
Working with Danya Taymor as director
On working with Tony winner Danya Taymor, Yoo said, “Oh my God. I was fan-girling on the first day of rehearsal. She is the coolest ever, and also the most supporting and uplifting director ever.”
Working with Tilly Evans-Krueger as Movement Director
Yoo also opened up about working with Chita Rivera Award winner Tilly Evans-Krueger as movement director of “John Proctor is the Villain.”
“Working with Tilly was great too as the movement director. Tilly is just incredible,” Yoo exclaimed.
Lessons learned from this show
On the lessons learned from this play, Yoo reflected, “I think it has taught me that we can allow people to grow, change and be multifaceted.”
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, Yoo revealed, “I can’t believe that this is happening!”
Success
Yoo defined the word success as “getting to do what I dreamed of doing as a job ever since I was little (that’s crazy!), and the peace of mind that comes with it.”
