Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy talks European tour, Chris Cornell (Includes interview)

On May 2, Alter Bridge performed at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. “Starland went well,” he said. “It is always fun there. It was our first show with Metal Church and In Flames, so that was cool. We love those guys. It felt like a few weeks of summer camp.”

This past February, Alter Bridge played the PlayStation Theater in New York’s Times Square. “Actually it went really well. The storm didn’t tamper the event, fortunately. It ended up being one of my favorite New York gigs.”

Kennedy had nothing but the fondest remarks about their headlining concert at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island, which was “obviously” yet another stand-out show for the acclaimed band.

When Alter Bridge toured with Disturbed last year, Kennedy was fortunate enough to sing a haunting duet version of “Sound of Silence.” “It is an incredible song,” Kennedy admitted. “I just read recently that Paul Simon wrote it in his early 20’s,” he added, which is an impressive feature.

Speaking of Disturbed, their rendition of “Sound of Silence” went on to garner a Grammy nomination for “Best Rock Performance.” “Deservingly so. I think they did a great job and I love their interpretation of it. I think it’s fantastic,” he said.

Alter Bridge is pretty pumped for their European tour, which they have dubbed as their “second home.” “We are starting in Germany, and it’s great to get back there. The festivals are amazing, and they are a major part of the European summer culture,” he said.

The only unfortunate part of their European tour is that Alter Bridge will not be performing in Greece, but he hopes that they will play there at some point in the future.. “I would love to get to Greece. I’ve never played there and never had the opportunity to go there,” he said.

“We are coming back to our second home. It has been six months, but we want to get back. Looking forward to seeing you all,” he told their European fans.

Kennedy revealed that he is working on his second solo album, which he had put in the back burner for quite some time. He also took the time to pay his respects to the late Chris Cornell. He shared that he was the privilege to collaborate with Cornell on a duet of “My Funny Valentine.” “We did that 19 years ago,” Kennedy said. “It’s pretty devastating news that he passed,” he added, prior to praising him as one of the most important singer-songwriters of our time.
