On the song selection process for The Last Hero, Kennedy said, “We essentially used the same approach that we have been using since Blackbird. When Mark and I get together, we go through a lot of our separate ideas and we piece together these songs. The whole process moves pretty quickly with us now. We didn’t really gear away from that. As far as the lyrical content went, there was a finite about a time to do this record, and a lot of inspiring things were happening in the world. It was a snapshot of 2016.”
Alter Bridge collaborated with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette. “It is always just a pleasure. He is one of the best rock producers in the world. Each time we get the opportunity to work with it, it reminds me of that. He is the unofficial fifth member of Alter Bridge at this point. We have no intentions of changing that anytime soon,” he said.
Kenny listed the title track “The Last Hero,” as well as “The Other Side” and “This Side of Fate” as his three favorite songs on the album. “Those are three that stand out to me right now for sure,” he said.
They will be touring Europe within the next few weeks. “We start in early November. We will be playing in Bilbao, Spain, which I love, and it is one of my favorite places. We are definitely excited to cross the pond and we will be there for five or six weeks,” he said.
For their fans, he said, “We generally tend to wait three years per record, and we know that it’s a long time to wait, and we appreciate your patience. Hopefully, this album was worth the wait. We are very proud of this record, and we hope you enjoy it.”
Kennedy defined success as “Being happy with where you are in life, no matter what the situation is.”
