Pop artist Ally Brooke (Fifth Harmony) chatted about her new solo music, “Gone to Bed” single, and her new holiday EP.
‘Gone to Bed’
On her single “Gone to Bed,” she said, “That was amazing, I love that record. This is my first record back in over a year, and I just love it so much. I love the lyrics, the music, and the vibe. It’s very ‘me’ now, if you know what I mean.”
“I hope the fans love it and I hope that they will be able to dance to it; I hope this song also puts them in a vibe,” she said.
Music and songwriting
Her music and her songwriting are inspired by her “everyday life,” as well as her family, being in love, and being confident and more vulnerable.
She noted that a difference exists between singing in the studio vs. performing live. While she enjoys the studio, for Brooke, it is all about the live performance, especially because it is instant gratification. “I love being in front of a crowd,” she exclaimed.
New holiday EP
She is thrilled about her new four-track Christmas EP titled “Under the Tree.” “Originally, that EP began with one song but then we expanded it and decided to do a Christmas EP.”
“We rushed to do it all,” she said with a sweet laugh. “I love Christmas so much. It has been an aspiration of mine to have my own Christmas album, so I am elated to have this EP.”
She listed “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” as her favorite holiday song on there. “That one is really heartfelt, and it just tugs at the heartstrings,” she said.
“I hope this new collection brings my fans that nostalgic Christmas feeling, and I hope that it fills them with joy,” she added.
‘All Night’ with Afrojack
“Working with Afrojack on ‘All Night’ was awesome,” she exclaimed about “All Night.” “Afrojack is really fantastic; he is so nice, and he is so talented. I love that record; Afrojack is just incredible. It is fun, uplifting, and ethereal to me.”
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, she said, “It’s crazy. The industry now is so different than it was a decade ago; it is ever-changing. I feel like it’s very good and you have instant reactions to your music and your art. You can instantly see the fans enjoying what you put out.”
When it comes to AI (artificial intelligence), Brooke hopes that it doesn’t overtake artists and their rights. “Art is human… and I guess we will see what happens,” she said.
Advice for hopefuls
For young and aspiring artists, she encouraged them to “educate themselves on the business, and to know that they have a voice, and listen to that voice.”
Stage of her life
On the title of the current chapter of her life, Brooke said, “Up in the Sky.” “I feel really happy, fulfilled, and glad. That’s how I’m feeling right now… I am in such a good place in my life,” she said.
Future plans
Regarding her future plans, she remarked, “I am working on my actual album, which I am hoping will be out next year. I am in the studio right now, co-writing and writing, and I am loving it.”
Career-defining moments
Brooke described her new holiday EP as a career-defining moment, especially because it means so much to her and her family. “That was a bucket list item that I could check off,” she said. “I am looking forward to my upcoming solo album.”
Dream duet choices
Her dream duet choices in music include The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, and Drake. “These three are at the top of my list,” she admitted.
Favorite saying
Brooke noted that she loves the saying “you can get through anything” and “you are stronger than you think.” “Even if life throws you curveballs, remember that, and have that in the back of your mind. That is very comforting,” she said.
Success
On her definition of the word success, Brooke said, “Success means doing what you love every day.” “Being able to tour, sing, and create music, and having people love it is what success means to me,” she said.
