Actress Alexandra Metz talks about starring in the Emmy award-winning TV drama series “The Pitt” on HBO Max.
How was your experience in The Pitt?
Both terrifying and exhilarating. I constantly feared being fired, yet surprised myself by realizing that I was, in fact, capable and exactly where I was meant to be.
Essentially, it has been a roller coaster of emotions while being surrounded by some of the sweetest and most supportive crew you could ever meet.
What do you like most about your character Dr. Yolanda Garcia?
What I love most is that Dr. Yolanda Garcia’s strength and authority come from remaining calm.
How does it feel to work with Noah Wyle?
It feels like being in an adult sandbox. He is so free and owns his artistry and humanity so beautifully, which inspires the same in everyone around him.
How did it feel to win the SAG Award?
It felt pretty surreal. This is the award that has meant the most to me over the years. One that consists of recognition from peers who truly understand the process and craft.
How does it feel to be an actor in the digital age?
Wildly uncertain. I constantly find myself wanting to quit social media. Some say it is a necessary evil for this profession, but I know there are plenty of people who navigate this career without it, and I believe they are healthier overall because of it.
If this digital connection to my local community didn’t keep me abreast of cultural experiences and art throughout my city, I would leave it once and for all and never look back.

What do your plans for the future include?
I hope to continue growing both personally and creatively. Lots of creative collaboration with lovely artists, and hopefully traveling and seeing more of what will be an even healthier, more respected planet Earth.
What is your advice for young and emerging actors?
I would encourage them to really invest in themselves. Find a class and a community that inspires you to stay engaged. Work on yourself in earnest, continue to develop your craft, and stay ready.
What does the word success mean to you?
To me, success is a regulated nervous system.
What would you like to tell our readers about ‘The Pitt’? What’s the one thing you want them to take away from it?
We are all honored to make this show for healthcare workers, and we deeply appreciate the reception it has received around the world.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our show has made waves at a time when humanity is craving empathy.
So, I would say take that from the show and spread it as far and wide as you can. That is your superpower, too.
