Los Angeles-based disco house star Alexa Perl chatted about her new single “All the Ladies” and being a part of the digital age.

New single ‘All the Ladies’

On her latest single “All the Ladies,” she said, “It came about similarly to a lot of my other Y2K inspired tracks.”

“Now that I’m creating this flow and have a bit of a reputation of taking those early 2000 classics and turning them into energizing house tracks, some I hear out and immediately a lightbulb goes off of wanting to take that track and amplify it, while others people and friends will come to me with excitement and ideas around me revamping tracks,” she elaborated.

“After hearing how high energy, the chorus was an independent woman by Destiny’s Child, it felt like a no-brainer to explore it and create something with a deep house angle,” she added.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, “I really love finding and choosing tracks that I know a lot of my generation can connect to. My goal in starting all of this years ago was to bring the house music that I grew up with and loved so much to people’s lives who I know hadn’t experienced it.”

“I always felt that people who didn’t know the high-quality European house music I listened to were missing out on an important feeling and experience in life,” she noted.

“So that’s why I started DJing – to bring music that I love and that spoke to me into other people’s lives as well,” she said. “Now, several years later, I’m so inspired and motivated about the fact that I can also create my own sound that I am confident people will dance to,” she admitted.

“I love choosing songs that I know people will connect to and feel nostalgia around. It brings this familiarity and connection to the music while also introducing new and exciting sounds,” she added.

Future plans

On her future plans, she revealed, “Right now, I am truly enjoying creating my own songs and have many more in the queue. I also play my music live around the world, not just produce it, and I plan on continuing that for a very long time.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, Perl said, “I find it to be both a blessing and a challenge. Having the digital platforms allows me to connect with people all over the world.”

“I am constantly getting messages from people in Iceland, Australia, Spain, and everywhere in between. It really makes me feel like I’m connected to so many strangers and I’m so grateful,” she expressed.

“However, because of how many people are constantly posting and sharing about their own passions and lives, it can be very challenging to stand out and get views,” she added.

Advice for young and aspiring artists

For young and emerging artists, she said, “Don’t hold back! Say yes to everything, take leaps of faith, don’t overthink your posts. Even having one fan can be motivating enough.”

“It’s worth the journey, and it’s important to remember that every single artist is on their own journey. So if you have the passion for it, go for it, and don’t compare yourself to what anyone else is doing.

Perl is drawn to electronic music for various reasons. “I really feel that electronic music brings out an energy in a space that can heal you,” she said. “I find that when I am listening to electronic music, my mood, energy, and motivation can immediately change.”

“I also feel that the layers that music is created in an electronic song specifically is so powerful and so sophisticated – you can really hear the energy and soul that so many artists pour into their electronic songs, it’s quite unique and special!

Success

On her definition of the word success, Perl said, “Success means having a vision and seeing it come to life. I’ve always loved music, but I didn’t have the confidence to produce for a long time.”

“Now that I am more involved in production, and I see my vision comes to life, that’s all of the success I can ask for,” she noted.

“It doesn’t matter how many listens, how many playlists reached, or how many fans I have, it’s that I took my vision from my mind and created it for the world to see and to have, and that truly feels like a huge milestone every time I release a track,” she elaborated.

Message for her fans and supporters

For her fans and supporters, she remarked about the new music, “Thank you so much for listening and supporting. It means the world to me that you are all connecting with my track. Know that it was built with love and energy!”
