“It feels good to back. I just got off the main stage and it has been incredible,” Walker said, about performing at Electric Zoo. “I always try to do an uptempo and downtempo show, but this time I kept it mostly uptempo.”
Walker is drawn to electronic music due to its infinite possibilities. “You can make anything. You can have it emotional, and melancholic. It all depends on your mood,” he said.
He listed global music stars Rihanna or Ellie Goulding as his dream collaboration choices. For aspiring DJs and producers, he said, “Never ever give up, even though there is a lot of competition these days. There is always a bunch of opportunities. Look for a new song or technique that sets you apart from everybody else. Try to do your best to promote your own music to help build a fan-base and get your music out there.”
Last year, Walker was listed at No. 17 on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll. “It is so weird and so much fun. It was absolutely incredible. My fan-base has been insane, and I am very thankful for them for voting,” he said.
The hardest part of his job as a musician is “getting proper rest.” “You live in a hotel and you live on the airplane,” he said. “I always say that the airplane is my second home and the hotel is my third home.”
If he weren’t a musician, Walker shared that he would be studying, in the military or working in a grocery store, as his alternate career choices.
Digital transformation of electronic music
On the impact of technology on the electronic music scene, Walker noted that it has made collaborations easier, where they don’t have to do in the same room to make it work. “I have done collaborations with vocalists where they would sing in their own studios,” he said. “Everything is on the world wide web. Bands can do it the original way, in the studio or they can use their computer. If you want the most organic sound, you should use the studio.”
Regarding his use of technology in his daily life, Walker said, “I use technology for everything and I use it every day, even for the simplest things. In music, I use my computer, and my software to put together new music. I also use it for live performances.”
For his fans, Walker said, “Thank you guys so much for all the love and support. Things have been incredible, and I feel we have just barely begun. We have a long journey ahead of us. The Walker fan-base (The Walkers) is only growing and getting bigger and bigger.”
