Actor and artist Adam Bucci (“EastSiders”) spoke about his new short film “Let It Kill You,” where he stars alongside Adam Huss.
“Let It Kill You” was composed, written and directed by David Cornue (with the two male leads also serving as producers).
The synopsis is: A disaffected U.S. soldier, Aidan West (played by Adam Huss) unearths a mysterious man Rahotep (Adam Bucci), who trapped inside a cave in the Sinai Peninsula.
“Our screening the other night went great,” he said. “We have been developing it for years with our writer and producer David Cornue. It has been really fulfilling to see something on screen.”
“To see our characters come to life and for people to see our concept, and wanting more has been really rewarding,” he acknowledged.
“That is keeping up motivated to keep going forward with a feature and the bigger projects,” he added.
The digital age
On being an actor, artist, and content creator in the digital age, Bucci said, “It’s an interesting time now, especially with the strike going on. We all want to be create on those platforms, but it’s important now to settle this and to get paid the right way.”
“It would be nice to be paid and having residuals, and something for our work and creativity,” he acknowledged.
Thoughts on AI on the future of the art and entertainment business
“AI is kind of scary but we need to accept it as a tool,” he said. “It definitely should not be replacing people’s jobs and that’s what we are fighting for with this strike. As a visual artist, I was really concerned about it, especially when they had Lensa and all these apps”
‘EastSiders’
Bucci shared that he enjoyed being a part of the hit Netflix series “EastSiders.” “That was great,” he admitted. “It was a surprise hit that went from a web series to an Emmy-nominated series on Netflix.”
“Looking back, we didn’t realize how cool it was to be a part of that. Kit Williamson and John Halbach are a great group of creators. People really respected it. I was so lucky to have been a part of that,” he recalled.
Adam Bucci: The painter and artist
As a painter, he is known for his Small Town Weirdo artwork, which deals with horror and pop culture designs. Bucci noted that he is looking forward to his upcoming Art exhibit, which will fun from Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October, 15 at The LINE Hotel in Los Angeles. “It will be free to the public. Levis is partnering with me on this Halloween exhibit, and they are supplying all the denims and the paints,” he said.
“I am painting away nonstop to get ready for this exhibit in a month and a half. It’s keeping me busy during the strike. I am excited about this exhibit,” he added.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Bucci said, “Stressed but grateful.” “I’m feeling the stress of the time between the industry and the world. Nobody knows what’s next in any way, so it’s a little bit stressful. I am also grateful though,” he said.
Advice for young and aspiring artists
For young and aspiring artists and actors, Bucci said, “Right now, it’s hard. Have a job no matter what it is, and don’t be ashamed of what it is even if it’s outside of the industry. You need to have a job and be responsible.”
“If you can be creative in any way possible to make a living while pursuing your main goal, that can be very rewarding. My goal right now is to stay creative, and even though it’s hard, I think it will pay off,” he elaborated.
Success
On his definition of the word success, Bucci said, “Knowing that you are doing what you love and knowing that you can make a living out of it, and you can put food on the table, and not be super stressed about work.”
“Having a little stability in an unstable business would be nice,” he added.
