Ada Vox discusses ‘American Idol,’ new single ‘Because of You’ (Includes interview)

On her latest single “Because of You,” Vox said, “It was written by a wonderful singer-songwriter named Janice Robinson, who was actually a contestant on the X Factor in the UK this year. She wrote it as a homage to the people who loved her and supported her through her career. One day, randomly, I was in the car with my agent and he played the demo for me. I fell in love with the song because of its lyrics, and because of what the song meant. This song is a ‘thank you’ to everybody that has supported me on this journey. This song is a personification of that.”

Regarding her experience on the reality singing competition, American Idol, Vox said, “It was absolutely fantastic and I enjoyed every minute of it. I auditioned for the show a total of 13 times over eight years, and I am so glad that it came around this time around, and it really changed my life for the better. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.”

Vox listed American Idol alums Tori Kelly, Fantasia, and Kelly Clarkson as her dream collaboration choices. “I have looked up to these American Idol contestants, and I think they are fantastic,” he said.

Digital transformation of music industry

On the impact of technology on the music business, Vox said, “Technology has made it harder for artists to make money from the actual music, which is why they have to tour so much. I don’t think of it as a bad thing. It has forced us to put out more music, and it has allowed us to connect with our fans on a more personal level thanks to social media. That has really helped people make a name for themselves in the industry. All in all, technology has given us more opportunities to connect with our fans.”

“I’m not very good with technology,” she said, with a sweet laugh. “I do remain active on social media. I use technology to my advantage in that way. I think it is very important that we, as artists, try our best to connect with our fans on a more personal level outside of our music. That is a full-time job in itself.”
