Actress Lydia Look chatted about being a part of the hit ABC daytime drama “General Hospital” on ABC.

Walt Disney once said: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Lydia Look is living proof of this wise quotation by the cartoon legend.

She is known for her role as mob boss Selina Wu on “General Hospital.” “Honestly, being on the show has been very smooth,” she said. “It is manifesting itself beyond my control. Every block and every brick has been put in place organically, and that has been a huge surprise to me. I am just enjoying the ride.”

Look enjoys being afforded the privilege to work with all of the veteran actors (such as Maurice Benard) that she gets to work with on the show. “I feel like I am getting paid to do my craft, which is a dream,” she said. “Also, having a little community of a second family that I can call my own. You get to develop new relationships with these people and that to me has been a real blessing. I really feel very grateful for that.”

She had great words about working with Parry Shen and Donnell Turner. “Parry is the easiest person to work with. He is one of the most supportive fellow actors. I am very grateful to him,” she said.

“Donnell is very kind and knowledgable, and he gave me very good advice. Donnell is ahead of the game and he is a very smart guy. Donnell is a man with a mission,” she added.

She speaks five languages and is an award-winning actress and writer. She was a co-writer on The Disney Channel original movie “Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior.”

Look played Ning in “7 Letters,” which was Singapore’s 88th Academy Award Foreign Film entry in 2015. Her latest movie “Paper Tiger” won two awards at the 2020 Austin Film Festival.

When asked how she handles being dialogue-heavy on “General Hospital,” she said, “I was used to that as a kid growing up: memorizing many pages of material. I have built a good muscle on that growing up and I also think that I have a good memory.”

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “More fun and more meaning, please.” “That would be what I want,” she admitted.

Look enjoyed being a part of Maurice Benard’s MB “State of Mind” podcast on mental health. “Maurice is so great, and we have great chemistry working together on the show,” she said. “Maurice is such a gem, and he deals with his own mental health on a daily basis. A lot of magic happens on MB State of Mind.”

For young and aspiring actors, Look said, “I am learning every day myself. Truthfully, the advice I would give is ‘don’t be afraid to fail.’ I was so afraid to fail myself so I missed a lot of opportunities.”

“Just reach for the skies, the worst you can do is the best you can do, and that in itself is an accomplishment. What you have is uniquely yours. Don’t let your own fear of failure take you away from trying for something,” she added.

She defined the word success as “being very fulfilled internally with joy and getting to do what I love to do. “

For her loyal “General Hospital” fans, Look concluded, “I love the fans, thank you so much. Their support was totally unexpected. I think Selina Wu’s fans are very diverse. It’s like a rainbow where you have all sorts of people and she strikes a chord in different sectors of the popular and I feel very grateful about that. Without the fans, there would be no Selina Wu.”
