Her death occurred one day after the passing of her 60-year-old daughter, respected entertainer Carrie Fisher, who was best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, who had suffered a heart attack.
According to TMZ, the iconic actresses was rushed to the hospital after 1 p.m. after a 911 call, when Reynolds and her son, Todd Fisher, were making funeral plans for Carrie. ET Online reported that 15 minutes prior to her passing, Reynolds stated that she “wanted to be with Carrie.”
Reynolds rose to fame thanks to her portrayal of Kathy Selden in the musical comedy Singin’ in the Rain, where she starred with Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor.
As a singer, Reynolds’ hit song “Tammy” stayed for five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1957. The popular tune was featured in the film, Tammy and the Bachelor, starring Reynolds in the leading role as Tammy, and it was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Original Song.”
