Actor Bryan James chatted about his new film “Reckless,” and working with four-time Emmy nominee Max Ehrich.
How is your experience shooting the thriller “Reckless”?
Reckless has been unlike any project I’ve ever been a part of, the character I’m playing in this movie is the most interesting role I’ve ever taken on.
What do you like most about your character Alex?
I like that the character isn’t one thing. He has a complexity to him not only in his behavior but in his purview as well, and the contrast internally he faces at times is interesting.
What was it like working with Max Ehrich?
Max is the best professional experience I’ve ever had. It’s a pleasure working with him on this project.
What did this screenplay teach you about yourself?
The need that people have in relationship with one another can be rooted in a lack of something in one person that their encounters with the other person bring balance too.
What something looks like on the outside might actually be deeply layered in a survival mechanism.
My character, Alex, demands a lot out of Dan because he feels the pursuit of him will heal some deeper wound.
In relationships, I think it’s a lot of projection on both sides when people come together, so this feels like a universal story taken to the extreme.
Were you a fan of “Fatal Attraction” growing up?
Yes, and the reverence I have for the 1987 film is extreme and hopefully obvious when you watch this movie.
How does it feel to be a part of the digital age?
It feels odd and not like something I ever planned or imagined I would be a part of. I’m a storyteller and I’m thankful to have any sort of platform to create art.
What is your advice for young and emerging actors?
Go do something else as well. Good acting comes from good living. Find balance in more than just pursuing the goal of working as an actor.
Living in the feeling of already being happy with what you have it crucial to achieving more externally.
What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)
Success means pressure and attention and agendas and demands and higher stakes.
Success just broadcasts in a different way the painstaking and also beautiful experience of being a human being.
“Reckless” is out on November 21, which fans will be able to rent or buy by clicking here.
