Bill Paxton (born 1955), who came from and resided in Texas, featured in several ‘cult’ movies. In addition to James Cameron’s Aliens, Paxton featured in The Terminator, Apollo 13, True Lies, Titanic, and disaster movie Twister. The latter movie arguably gave him his biggest role, where costarred opposite Helen Hunt. Paxton’s most recent film role was a supporting cast member in the movie Edge of Tomorrow. In Aliens, Paxton played the part of technician Private Hudson. For this he received a Saturn Award for best supporting actor.
Paxton’s death was unexpected. According to Smokeroom, the actor died at the age of 61 after complications from surgery. A representative of Paxton’s family told Screen Daily: “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
Several actors took to Twitter to pay their respects to Paxton. Rob Lowe tweeted: “Devastated by the sudden loss of my close friend and one of the finest actors in the business, Bill Paxton. Renaissance man, raconteur and uniquely American national treasure. His filmography speaks for itself. His friendship was a blessing. My love to Bunny, James and Lydia.”
Tom Hanks messaged: “Bill Paxton was, simply, a wonderful man. A wonderful man… Hanx.” William Shatner also expressed: “Condolences to the family of Bill Paxton. I just heard the news.” Many other tributes can be found at @BillPaxton.
Paxton was married from 1979 to 1980 to Kelly Rowan. He re-married in 1987; Paxton is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Newbury, and their two children.
