Country singer-songwriter Abby Anderson chatted about her new single “Bright Side of Blue,” and being a part of the digital age.

‘Bright Side of Blue’

On the origin of her new song, Anderson said, “I had a write scheduled with my two dear friends Clara Calaway and Bonnie Dymond. I’d been craving singing something that made me feel powerful. That reflected how I was feeling and had been feeling for a while. Like I was getting my wings and ready to use them.”

“I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’d been feeling proud of myself for not giving up. For not quitting when I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.

“Clara came in with the title ‘Bright Side of Blue’ and as soon as she said it, I knew exactly what it meant to me and exactly how to write it. The words just fell out of me, and we had ourselves a song in less than an hour,” she elaborated.

Music and songwriting inspirations

On her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, “I’m very inspired by God, my family and the grey in situations and feelings. That there’s rarely a black and white to anything. I love stories. I love the tension in situations. And I love figuring out how to convey that feeling and that tension into words. I guess I just love life!”

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, she shared, “I’m hitting the road with Tim McGraw this April, playing Stagecoach and playing my first headlining shows. We’ve got a project coming out in the summer which ‘Bright Side of Blue’ kicks off and I’m feeling great. I just want to keep getting better and better at my craft.”

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, she said, “I’m not sure how it feels compared to anything else because it’s all I’ve really known. I guess sometimes I don’t really feel like filming or sharing myself on the internet. Like I just want to go into my little cocoon and write.”

“I’ve gotten better at allowing myself to rest and create privately so that when I’m ready to share myself again, I feel like my cup is full. Sometimes I get overwhelmed. But when I focus on the song and sharing my song, that overwhelm feeling goes away pretty quick,” she explained.

Advice for young and aspiring artists

For young and aspiring artists, she encouraged them “to write.” “Write every single day and with new people and try new things! Write even when you don’t feel like writing,” she said.

Dream duet choices in music

Her long list of dream duet choices in music include Beyoncé, Morgan Wallen, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars and Post Malone. “More than that I’d love to write with them and see what we would create together,” she said.

Success

On her definition of the word success, she said, “Success to me is taking joy in the journey and then when you get there, standing on top of that mountain with gratitude filling your heart knowing you did it authentically and put the dreams in your head into action.”

“Success to me is creating in the physical world the dreams and desires you truly have and doing it in a way that lifts and blesses the lives of those around you,” she added.

Closing thoughts on ‘Bright Side of Blue’

She remarked about her single “Bright Side of Blue,” “It is my ‘keep on keeping on’ song. I love it so much and love singing it even more because it reminds me of how far I’ve come.”

“I’ve had some low lows in my life, and I may have gotten down at times but I did not allow those circumstances to take me away from what I truly wanted. I did not allow those hard times to derail me from my dreams or seeing the blessing in everything,” she acknowledged.

“I love myself for that and when people listen to it, especially my fans, I hope they love themselves a little more too,” she added.
