Country recording artist Aaron Watson chatted about his two country singles (“Sober Truth” and “That’s What She Said”) and his Texas tour.

‘Sober Truth’ single

On the concept for “Sober Truth,” Watson said, “It was an idea I came up with. It doesn’t only have to do with drinking; it deals with the fact that life is hard.”

“I had a guy tell me a story about how he had been struggling with alcoholism for years, and he was now free from his addiction. He was not drinking anymore; he was sober, but now he was having to live with the consequences of all the mistakes that he had made over the years,” Watson elaborated.

“I thought that was an interesting idea for a song, where you’ve cleaned your life up but you are still dealing with the mistakes that you’ve made in the past,” he acknowledged.

“As a songwriter myself, I am able to put in personal things that I’ve experienced,” he added.

‘That’s What She Said’ single

On his single “That’s What She Said,” he remarked, “Both of those songs have similar ideas. They are dealing with the heartaches. This one had a funny origin to it.”

“This song was inspired by ‘The Office’ because I would use that line but I would twist up the saying. We made it a country song, and of course, that’s how I think,” he explained.

“I also draw inspirations from my own life, where sometimes, I mix the two,” he admitted.

“I wanted it would sound like how George Jones or Keith Whitley would cover a song. That’s where those two songs came from,” he added.

Texas tour

On his Texas tour, he remarked, “It is going great. We are staying busy. We’ve been busy the whole year.”

“In the last year, we’ve been everywhere from California to Connecticut. We’ve been all over the place,” he noted.

Jake Watson

He opened up about his son, Jake Watson, and his prowess as an up-and-coming country singer-songwriter.

“My son Jake is doing great. We just celebrated his graduation. He loves music and he will be starting college in the fall,” Watson said. “Jake is starting to write and sing a lot. We are working on his music. His guitar playing is phenomenal,” Watson elaborated.

“It is such a joy to have Jake out on the road with me, especially just to hang out with my son. It is just good memories.”

“I always tell people that he is going to HTU (Honky Tonk University),” he added.

Message for his fans

For his dedicated fans and supporters, Watson expressed, “The last few years have been a struggle for me due to issues I’ve had with my vocal chords.”

“I had to have a couple of surgeries, which took me out of the game for a little while, but it has given me time to write and work on my music,” he said, pointing out the silver lining.

“We have a new album that we are working on, and we will be back stronger than ever. Country music doesn’t know what is going to hit them,” he concluded.
