Australian actor Aaron Jakubenko chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about the new film “Great White,” which will be released on July 16 in theaters, On Demand, and Digital HD.
The movie was directed by Martin Wilson, and written by Michael Boughen. Aside from Jakubenko, the cast is made up of Katrina Bowden, Kimie Tsukakoshi, Tim Kano, Te Kohe Tuhaka, and Tatjana Marjanovic.
In this thriller, a blissful tourist trip turns into a nightmare when five seaplane passengers are stranded miles from shore. In a desperate bid for survival, the group tries to make it to land before they either run out of supplies or are taken by a menacing terror lurking just beneath the surface. “It was a lot of fun,” he said about “Great White.” “We hung out at the beach and made a movie with friends.”
Jakubenko stars as Charlie in the film. He is drawn to his character due to his perseverance, strength, love, and determination.
He praised actress Katrina Bowden, who played Kaz, his leading woman. “Katrina is so wonderful. She is such a dedicated actor and she really has so much heart. She is really good at what she does and she brings so much empathy and emotion. She is so talented and she is a wonderful leader,” Jakubenko said.
Jakubenko also complimented actress Tatjana Marjanovic for being “really lovely” and “a gem.”
Regarding his daily motivations as an actor, Jakubenko said, “I loved to tell stories. One of the reasons I got into this was because I was moved by the stories that I saw unfolding in front of me.”
On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “There is a lot more content, and a lot more demand for content, which I think is wonderful. There needs to be a balance.”
For young and aspiring actors, he said, “The journey is long. You need to have balance because your life as a whole is far more important than just your career.”
Jakubenko listed Academy Award winner, Sir Mark Rylance, as his dream collaboration partner in acting. “He demands presence and he demands connection. I really admire him,” he said.
On the title of the current chapter of his life, the Aussie actor responded, “Keep Breathing.” “I think that’s relevant to this film and the times that we are in these days. Just try to enjoy every day,” he said.
Jakubenko defined the word success accordingly as “inner peace.”
For his fans and followers, he concluded about “Great White,” “I hope the fans enjoy the journey that these characters go on.”
