NEW YORK (voa) – U.S. stocks continue to post mixed results in afternoon trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 16 points at 9,697, but the broad market indicator, the S&P 500, is up four points at 1,123. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index is 19 points (nearly one percent) higher at 1,901.
In London, the Financial Times Index ended the day up 31 points at 5,181, while in Paris the CAC 40 Index was up four points at 4,451. The Dax Index in Frankfurt is 55 points (more than one percent) higher at 5,100.
Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index ended the day down 10 points to close at 10,041, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng Index was 36 points lower to close at 10,762.
The price of gold closed in London at $280.20 an ounce – down $1.70.
The dollar remains higher against the other major currencies.
