US Stocks Close Mixed

NEW YORK (voa) – U.S. stocks were mixed at closing Monday, three days after new economic reports indicated prospects are strong for the U.S. economy to rebound.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 29 points to end at 10,578.

The broad market indicator, the S&P 500, fell .6 point to 1,166.

The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose nine points to 1,877.

In London, the Financial Times Index ended the day up seven points at 5,300, while in Paris the Cac-40 Index was up 37 points at 4,626. The Dax Index in Frankfurt gained 25 points, to close at 5,426.

Gold for current delivery in New York closed at $292.30 an ounce, up from $289.90 cents an ounce on Friday.

The dollar was mixed against the other major currencies.
