Are you an entrepreneur who feels like you’re constantly juggling the demands of work and personal life? Look no further! Prepare to be inspired and awed by the incredible story of Will Miller, a true titan of the roofing industry who has managed to create a thriving empire while still being the ultimate “family man.”

The world is fast-paced, and we’re all expected to keep up. But at what cost? For many professionals, the answer is their health, happiness, and well-being. Despite the clear and resounding evidence that working long hours can be detrimental to both employees and employers, some are still unable to break free from their assumptions and deeply ingrained habits around work hours.

But the price they pay is too high. The toll on mental and physical health is significant, with an increased risk of burnout, anxiety, depression, and even chronic illnesses. Personal lives suffer, with strained relationships and missed milestones. And ultimately, work suffers too, with reduced productivity, creativity, and innovation.

The story of Will Miller, the founder of Priority Roofing, is a testament to the importance of work-life balance and the real possibility of creating a successful empire without neglecting your mental health.

Miller started his business with a modest goal of selling 20 roofs a month to provide for his family. However, his work ethic and dedication quickly led to an unexpected influx of business, which put him in a difficult spot. With no deposits taken and a sudden need to cash flow massive amounts of roofs, Miller had to turn to hard-money lenders and put his finances on the line to keep his word and ensure his team was compensated for their work.

“It was extremely stressful for me and my family,” Miller recalls. “I was working six days a week, leaving my house at six in the morning and getting back at ten or eleven at night. When I wasn’t working, my phone was blowing up – it was a difficult season.”

The key to balancing work and life is setting priorities and boundaries. For Miller, family always came first, but he also understood the importance of keeping his word to his customers and providing for his team. He learned to delegate responsibilities to trusted managers, which allowed him to step back and spend more time with his family.

“If you give someone your word,” Miller says, “you have to do it.”

The birth of Priority Roofing marked the start of a new chapter in his life, one that was dedicated to achieving a healthy work-life balance. And from this motivation, came the principles of Priority Family, Priority Life, and Priority Excellence to guide the company’s culture and operations, ensuring that work-life balance is a priority for everyone involved.

For Miller, if you’re a part of the team, your value is based on that. It’s not based on what you can bring to the company. “And to me, that’s what Priority Family looks like. It looks like us being intentional about the people around us and us being intentional about who we are as an organization.”

He continues; “And if you’re part of my team going after this opportunity, this vision and its potential, then you know that sometimes work might flow into other parts of your life.”

At Priority Roofing, family comes first – it’s not just a principle, it’s a way of life. Miller and his team view their employees not as mere workers, but as members of a larger family. They understand that nothing in this world is more important than spending quality time with loved ones, and they go above and beyond to ensure their employees can achieve that balance between work and personal life.

Through his trials, Miller discovered the importance of stability, not only in his business but also in his personal life. He learned that keeping his word and following through on commitments was crucial to building trust and earning respect. As the company grew, so did Miller’s pride in what he had accomplished. Priority Roofing became a shining beacon of hope, a testament to the power of hard work and determination.

“I don’t just want to grow based on how much money I can make or how good I am at business. I want to grow in my ability to impact people around me,” he says. “I want to grow my own personal development and mental health. I want to grow my ability to connect with God and connect my purpose, and it can be hard to do that if I just block off 40 hours of my week for work, and spend the rest of my time trying to enjoy my life. There should be a balance and sense of fulfillment all around,” he continues.

Priority Roofing, with ten locations spread across 10 entities, has become a flourishing enterprise. But what’s the secret to their success? It’s Will Miller, who spearheaded Priority Roofing’s growth and understands that work-life balance is essential for employee happiness and productivity. Miller’s dedication to fostering a supportive and nurturing work environment has created a family-like atmosphere, where employees feel valued and supported.

From roofing projects in Houston and Dallas to residential roof inspections in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Tyler, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, California, and Denver, Priority Roofing’s services are expansive. Despite this growth, Miller’s commitment to work-life balance remains steadfast. He recognizes the importance of ensuring his employees nurture their personal life outside of work.

Miller’s approach to work-life balance has been instrumental in Priority Roofing’s success. By prioritizing his employees’ well-being, he’s created a positive and productive work environment where everyone is motivated to perform at their best.

As the company continues to expand and evolve, Miller’s unwavering dedication to work-life balance will undoubtedly continue to be a driving force behind Priority Roofing’s continued success.

In the end, achieving work-life balance is about finding a rhythm that works for us, and recognizing that it will ebb and flow over time. It’s about being kind to ourselves and recognizing that we are human beings, not human doings. It’s about learning to give ourselves grace, and recognizing that it’s okay to take a step back and prioritize our personal lives when necessary. And Miller’s three core mantras allow young entrepreneurs to do just that- achieve both personal and professional success.
